"Instruments are so over," says Bjork of her new, purely vocal album, Medulla, due out late August/early September.
"I think this was probably the most intuitive album I've done," she continues. "I had to use ingredients that I trusted, like my voice, my muscles, my bones. I couldn't really use all the other stuff."
Rahzel of the Roots -- known as "the Human Beatbox" -- supplies the percussive bass line for a majority of the songs, and the album also features collaborations with Inuit throat-singer Tanya Tagaq and former Faith No More frontman Mike Patton. The sound is primitive, full of brooding menace on "Where Is the Line" and soaring, breathy romance on "The Pleasure Is All Mine."
Following Medulla's release, Bjork will continue working in the studio rather than go on tour.
"Every album I've done, the minute that it's done, I feel really lubricated and, like, 'Wow, now I can write an album in five minutes,'" she says. "And I just want to find out if that's just a fantasy or if it's true."

bjork has apparently the widest gash in iceland and it`s not uncommon for seals to pop their heads out from time to time.

has anyone heard mike patton and rahzel's live shows? it's incredible how he keeps up the beatbox for so long and it really sounds like drums.
i'm looking forward to hearing this. i don't have any bjork albums...

Yeah I think she is making an album that uses voices only... like for a high-hat, she would be singing the tz sound and for a bass she would be singing m's
Then for a snare drum she would be rolling her tounge and making fracative noise..... There would be a lot of onomatopeias (sp?) from all around the world like "Zacepijebeemtimamuuuuuuuuuuu" from Croatian etc.

of course a voice can be used AS an instrument..
but to me, its all sound anyway; analogue, digital, electric, acoustic - doesnt matter how it's made.

vespertine is beautiful. some of her most delicately crafted songs on there.
but for some reason homogenic is my favourite. i think it's the contrast of the strings with mark bell's beats & production.
selmasongs is good for what it is, but it doesn't come close to her last two "proper" LPs.
for me, at least..
