I'm buying a centrino powered notebook in the next couple
of weeks...........is anyone successfully running Cubase SX
on such a machine? If so, what are the specs, specifically
the RAM, processor speed and sound hardware? And anyone got
a Dothan machine yet? (I want one of these, muchly muchly)

Most RAM you can get, If you have to go for a Centrino then
the fastest you can get, and a fly gorilla monkey fighter.

oh yeah, and whats wrong with a centrino processor? Low
power usage, onboard wirless and bluetooth............... if
it can run the apps I want..............sounds ok to
me.......

Low power usage...also lower clock speeds.

The Dothan processors run at up to 2GHz........... surely
thats going to be enough, with 512 MB of RAM (1 GB if I can
afford it).................. even a 1.7 GHz Centrino with
the same RAM should do it.....souldn't it? I'm not sure, to
tell you the truth, thats why I was looking for someone who
is doing this or knows of it being done........... and with
what sound card? surely not the onboard sound????

When I have a 3.06GHz Hyperthread P4 in my main laptop with
512MB and I still manage to max the processor out relatively
easily.

Onboard sound should be fine, there is no need for external
unless you need more audio i/o's which really you shouldn't
need.

Cheers............. I can live without extra i/o's, and I
don't plan to do excessively heavy processing......... i'm
moving to the uk and wanted the notebook to get me through
until i'm settled and I can get my desktop sent over......
hence the centrino............... low power usage should be
ideal for travelling around for a couple of months and
making tunes when inspired.........

Alienware Alien51-m (oldschool model)
p4 3.2 ghz
1GB ram
60GB HD

Consider purchasing an externial audio interface, it will
take alot of the load off your processor when working with
audio, and reduce latency.

Yeah, a P4 would rock, but I think it would be a bit of
over-kill given that my desktop is a P4 2.4GHz with a gig of
RAM etc. etc.......... and I want the notebook for true
portability and the wireless and bluetooth connectivity of
the Centrino chip-set.......what external audio do you
recommend?
