i spent a few years dabbling in literature on aesthetics, and i found them all -- with few exceptions -- utterly disconnected from the act itself, unbearably sterile, and lacking in the infectious vitality that characterizes the art world. i think, quite simply, and argument for what art is (even when it conclusion is subjectivity) is essentially ugly and displeasing -- it is all a part of the selfsame attempt to compact mental phenomena so it may fit into the rigid, square nook of reason. when 'truth' is the criterion, writing tends to be bland. the only definitions of art i can tolerate are aesthetic ones, not because they arrive at any absolute, but because they are works of art in themselves.

elegant theories is just what your mind wants... it's a trap as it's made people prefer a flat world over Galileo's theory, but it's more pleasing, I'll grant you that. So, it's art against truth?

it's not a trap, as it isn't designed. a round planet theory is elegant and pleasing to you, especially with its counter-intuitive cleverness. 'pretty' and 'true' are just different facets of the selfsame cognitive appeal. i just don't find the latter as pleasurable and exquisite as the first. but good luck to you, and get back to me when your discovery of the absolute essence of art reaches fruition.

not all picachu are male. those who ARE, are of course homosexual.
but after all so is Optimus Prime (how many female robots were there in the original???) He's head of a gay gang of autobots. I wonder if this word means they give their own cocks blowjobs (from greek word auto- meaning "self".. you never know, sometimes comic artists do a lot of research)

on a serious note, no, I don't like clever and counter- clever things. And I don't take clever theories and make them my own undefeatable world-view, you aren't doing me justice. I agree that elegant theories are pleasing, it's a brain structure thing. but just because it's elegant doesn't mean it's true. For instance quantum mechanics isn't TRUE. it isn't how the universe works. It's our limited understanding of it, and all theories, including the ones I adopt, are but lies. Increasingly complex lies, and increasingly further from "completely untrue"
So all in all, I agree that even theories are works of art, some of which we like and some of which we hate, for our own reasons.
and perhaps what I just phrased is a lie. I'm getting less serious again, so I'll stop.

oh the ESSENCE of art.. hm let me see. i think doom puppy mentioned something... rich people want art for their own reasons, which usually don't have anything to do with what pleases THEM. oh and critics have to make a living don't they? (parasitically, but we're all parasites anyways, even if we are Michael Angelo or Rubens or Aphex Twin)
so there you have it. the essence of art today, the Truth :p and if Truth is Beauty, then the way the art circuits truly work are *exquisite* as you yourself say.
let's not take ourselves too seriously, shall we?

It is sort of hard to stop oneself from acquiring information about stuff nowadays. Especially living in a western-type society. Getting jaded about things after knowing how they are made, what the artist exactly meant...the truth could be inevitable. One shouldn't shield oneself behind the intuitive way to perceive things. The fact that the person likes the art-piece in question is enough but knowing why one likes it is a step closer to self awareness.

I think you've got some interesting theories there are about homosexuality and Autobots. "Auto" as you point out, from the Greek meaning "self", and then, curiously the verb "to bot" can mean to engage in sodomy. I think a paper further expanding this subject is required.

Actually I'm pretty sure the real song title doesn't have "it" in it.
It smells like onion. "smells" and "like" = 2/4
smells like teen spirit. 4/4
both conveniently had 4 words so we didn't have to find a lowest common denominator or something.
It seems to be 50 porcent in fact.
