..to a new album (something you haven't heard before)?

there's so much good music being released i rarely check an
album more than 3 times...sometimes only once...and there
were like 5 albums out of let's say 100 this year, that i
played more than 10 times...

once straight off, then if i really get into it I listen
again. sometimes i leave a gap before listening again.

always try to find excuses to listen to new music...

i dont buy so many records anymore, so i have plenty of time
to listen to new stuff i got.
if i only listen to an album once, i definitely didn't like
it much.

I have a bad habit of doing that. This looks to be a real
good year for music so far - the very good albums are
getting eclipsed by the awesome ones.

and im keeping it low...if i wouldn't care about money, i'd
surely order 15 instead of 7 today.

Is that going to be Yankee Hotel Foxtrot II or are they
veering off in a different direction now?

I'd be more like you if I didn't have Emusic. It keeps my
spending in check.

v.much different. YHF was electronic-studio-loops-synths
based. This new album is very much live instruments based.

They tried to avoid overdubbing where possible and is all
played live. Amazing musicianship. Definately give it a
listen. its available to stream from their website if u want
to hear it...

A Ghost Is Born

Hummingbird and Company in my Back are my faves at the
moment. Quite brave at the end of humming bird to sound
so... traditional?

Amazing musicianship, and also amazing songwriting. And nice
clear and understated production that serves the music. I'm
impressed. It's going on my must have list.

glad you like it. there's a nice biography section on their
label's site (here). Gives some nice insight to
the band's aims/methods/etc.

going to see them on July 15th... gonna be amazing :)

Unfortunately, there's a lot of forgettable crap not worth
my time that I only listen to once or twice, but there's
tons of pleasant albums that I listen to every day for a
week or so. And when I find an album I REALLY like... I
listen to it a lot, sometimes too often, and I find myself
forcing myself away from said artist/album to go find
someone/something new.

about 3 times a day during 3 or 4 days

It ultimately depends on how much i like it when i first
listen to it.

If i like it alot i will listen to that album almost
exclusively for about a month.

It all depends on how much I like it at first. If it doesn't
grab me, I might not even listen to it all the way through;
listening to something else that is new instead. But I'll
always come back to it eventually, usually during a lull in
my CD buying.

And often only a few of the tracks on an album might seem to
stand out at first, so I'll listen to them a fair bit, then
slowly work my way out through the rest of the tracks. This
happened with Drukqs. I mostly listened to a few tracks on
the first disc before getting into the rest of the album.

Either way, I nearly always end up listening to and enjoying
albums a great deal.

usually with the stuff i am anticipating, usually new albums
by artists i follow, i'm pretty sure i'll like at least most
of it and so i listen to it all the way through as soon as i
buy it. often i like it so much i listen to hardly anything
but that for a few days. then i put it away for a while.
so it was with drukqs.

everything else i try to download first so i can see if i
like it enough to buy it. if i find i listen to the mp3s
enough, i'll buy the CD as above. recently, this has
happened for all of the boards of canada stuff, autechre,
and squarepusher...i got sick of the mp3s and am now buying
all their CDs.

Depends on the quality of the album. If the album as a whole
is not that great, but a few tracks are, I will usually just
listen to those tracks. Otherwise I really enjoy giving my
albums a full listen. I hate skipping to a specific track,
Im a big proponent of listening to the progression of songs
as the artists intend.

I usually listen to a few new albums almost every month. Its
hard to keep up, theres a lot of good stuff out there. I'm
still discovering amazing older releases that I haven't
heard yet and re-listening to them a lot. stuff like
Quench's album "punctuated", Audiomontages "snert" and
Crunch "1".

depends.. I mostly don't listen to the same stuff several
times in a row.. there's always something else in between.

My roommate in University would listen to the same song on
loop for about 10 times before changing it. And he had a
massive stereo hooked up to his computer. I remember our
second night of university, I'm sleepin at like 12am and my
roommate stumbles in, pukes on the floor in the dark, and
CRRRAAANKS the new R Kelly album on his stereo while Im
sleeping and he goes to sleep with that on like high volume.
The next day I set him straight, but as a compromise he told
me he always had to sleep to some sort of background noise,
so he would watch about 20 minutes of a dvd and then fall
asleep with the movie still playing through.

Weird shit man... weird shit.

find a girl man... you're going to do the greatest
background noise he hadn't heard yet...

I've got some cousins with less than satisfactory tastes
that used to listen to single Linkin Park songs for up to a
half hour, but I think I'm rubbing off on them... one of
them, at least.

I listened to a Sonics song like 4 times in a row this
morning.

im really tempremental about what i can get into, i tend to
buy things, sometimes not even play them all the way
through... im very much into mood, so how im feeling is what
ill listen to... and i have all this stuff that ive never
listened to for that time where i feel like something new :)

I conform to my own rule: I listen to single track ONLY ONCE
per day.

I do not have time to listen all my albums with required
attention, so I am forced to treat it as a background - not
preffered way of perception as for me.

every new album i get. quick listen meaning, like whole
album in one minute...sort of browse through...
