ok assuming qrters gone, and wont tell me that theres
already been a FLCL thread (i hope there hasnt) i will
proceed with this post.

What a great anime! The music, animation, storyline,
symbolism, and high speed humour is just top notch.
really enjoyable to finish watching too, cause i got the
first dvd and the last two were sold out at the time, so it
was a long wait between episodes.

anyone else seen this?
discuss

i don't think there's a decent thread about flcl here, so
don't worry.

i love this show. much more to it than your standard anime.
this is a very artistic and clever series. lots of
expressionism and hidden meanings.

i think it's open for interpretation, so i won't say what i
think it's about here, but in my mind the whole storyline
behind the superficial story is very clear. it's not just a
show about robots and aliens - if that's all you take from
it, you're not understanding it.

i have it on dvd...

...not to say that you're wrong if you don't like it. i'm
sure this qualifies as something people love or hate.

it has neat graphics and i can see why people may like it's
quirkiness, but it's way too silly and retarded for me to
overlook. unless i were on acid or something.

I am not an anime fan, but I think this is one of those most
amazing films I have seen in my whole life.

It has very detailed and developed characters (the voices
have lots of nuance as well), elaborate settings, a cohesive
plot, amazing animation styles, etc. There are billions of
tiny things interconnected all over the place, as well as a
plethora of minutiae at every moment. Furthermore it is out
to get a good time.

The story telling is extremely creative. She has to 'knock'
Canti (the bad-ass robot which atomsk inhabits) into his
wits (for the rest of the anime he's collecting the bits of
his broken head and trying to rebuild it!). The father is
_also_ tried as a candidate for
supper-matter-moving-flcl-power, but instead is hidden to
rot while she frolics with a mechanical version of him (note
the cable to the butt!).

I hate hate hate it when people say it is random. It is
not. very deliberate, very structured, very well thought
out.

It's only silly to give it a veneer or light heartedness, to
make the whole thing fun. I think at the core it deals with
many difficult issues, and presents them in a manner which a
jaded egoist like myself can actually sit through.

maybe it does have an intriguing story. i donno i only
watched it for a few minutes lol. the repulsive music and
lack of seriousness was more then i could stomach though.

Well, I ate things that take themselves too seriously, so
that's part of it.

Also, I get bored extremely, terrifyingly easy. I really
enjoyed deciphering the correlation of every microscopic,
strange act, every arbitrary moment, every inconceivable
conversational turn.

I tried to show it to friends, and they thought I was
retarded. I bought the first disc for one of them as an
xmas present out of spite.

well except for not being a big anime fan, i love anime so
much that i sleep with my anime dvd collection in bed
sometimes, and rub the dvd case edges against my nipples.

It's nice, isn't it?

By the way, I purchased my first action figure of my entire
life--at the age of 22--as based on this anime: the robot
Canti. Rules.

I hate so many things that it's basically incorrect if I
ever say anything which is as broad as anime is something I
like. For instance I have trouble saying I like people,
because I only like 10% of the personality of 0.0001% of the
people I have met.

I didn't even know there was a blue one! I googled and just
saw it.

yes, the red is what I have.

what did you think about the episode where naota exchanged
his cat ears with that blue haired girl, i think that may be
the only symbolic thing im still pondering

Oh dude, I haven't watched FLCL in months (8?), but there's
one scene when they're rushing through the house and the cat
farts on someone's face (maybe naota?). This is just a nice
example of a reward it gives to an attentive viewer. Eh,
reward is a catachresis there =P

its almost like the whole class was compatable to have the
flcl brain matter transport power, like the way the class in
evangelion were all compatable eva pilots.. and the two
animes share the same production team

your avatar has made me want to watch akira again, i think
ill do that later, its been awhile

Oh yes, I'm going off of old memory, but I think I got
that..

basically, Naota's head's NO power is so high that contact
with his skull is a bad idea. In episode 3 at the
beginning, when he's waiting for haruhara, and she causes a
bunch of car accidents, and her crappy scooter hits naota,
he flies and strikes her head with his. Anyway, at the
moment, some light surrounds her head I believe. This
imbues her with power (similarly to how he was initially
imbued with power from haruhara's guitar hitting his head),
which eventually manifests itself when it is used to bring
that weird spidery thing (with less legs than a spider) into
the world.

at least, that's what I recollect.

oh shit I'm smiling remembering that movie.. oh glory

ive gotta watch it again, im pretty smart and i did get most
of the symbolism but ill admit that i probobly did miss out
on some important things, as i was too focused on pressing
pause to read the fast as lighting subtitles at certain
points :P

I don't think the whole class was...

I think in general, the way it portrays it, all humans have
some affinity for NO, but some much more than others. For
instance, his father and amarao both have sucky N.O. power.
The anime portrayed ninamori as quite a badass (I mean, she
didn't kick asses, but was smart, confident, etc), so I
think that's why she was able to weild such power..

Oh by the way, another favorite nuance of mine is the
absolute ending.

Each of the first 5 episodes, after the ending song, the
blurb for the next episode, etc., there is a scene of
haruhara's bike outside of their house. After episode 6,
when she leaves them, this scene is replaced with her flying
off into space..

makes sense of course since she was a part of their lives
until the very end. _that_ is how I knew she was coming
back after episode 5, and that she's gone for good after
6..

(of course, I guess her return was predictable in 5, since
otherwise 6 would have to be kinda sucky in some way!!)

yeah it takes a will to fit all of it together. I have a
friend who is maniacally brilliant, but he had a blank face
for the whole first episode and left it with nothing.
