what do you have to say to this VP Cheney?

911 Commision: No Al Qaeda Iraq Link

this is prolly what he has to say about it:

Vice President Dick Cheney, in a speech Monday in
Florida, raised eyebrows by reasserting claims that Saddam
"had long-established ties with al Qaeda."

exactly. and then 2 days later, the commision says no, there
wasnt.

so I want to know what his response to this is NOW.

since the admin never clarifies (at least to my knowledge
they haven't) what a "link" means in this case, it could
really be anything.

i mean, if a guy from one of saddam's bodyguard's
neighborhoods knew someone who attended a training camp for
a week back in 1998, then, technically there's a link.

i mean, who knows.

"had long-established ties with al Qaeda"

what about that direct quote?

i'm not even clear on what "al qaeda" is... people tend to
say that all kinds of organizations are al qaeda... i mean,
if a terrorist group shares some of bin laden's
ideals, does that make that group al qaeda?.. what if a
group recieved a little bit of money for one project from a
group that was lightly connected to al qaeda.. does that
make them al qaeda too?

it's all a bunch of rhetoric and semantics...

Al Qaeda means The Base. It is basically a dispersed
organisation of terrorist groups and cells where bin Ladan
bank rolls and offers training for activities he thinks will
benefit islamics in general. It's sort of like Gescom.

yeah, but how much leadership do you think bin laden is
actually able to provide right now? I'd say, if he is still
alive, he's probably spending most of his time hiding.

so, basically lots of different groups sent people to these
fairly advanced training camps in afghanistan, where they
learned all kinds of things. those camps were funded
largely by osama and his close associates. that went on for
a decade or more, training thousands.

all of those people who got varying degrees of training from
al qaeda funded camps went back to their own small little
groups and tried to spread what the knew.. so part my
confusion is that, do all of those little groups get called
al qaeda too? or do they have to directly recieve money
from bin laden?..

i mean, i guess it's not really important what you call
them... but, i think it definately makes a difference when
someone like cheney says there is an "iraqi link to al
qaeda"... makes me wonder; how many times removed was that
suposed link?

i suppose i'm just rambling.

It's common sense and stands to reason that there would be
connections between Saddam Hussain's regime and al Queda.
It could be that a link could not be made public due to
other implications (eg. lets just say Libya, for example,
were involved in the chain...with them now being a "friend"
of the US it would destabilise their cooperation).

The simple fact is that not all information can be placed
into the public domain.

As for the small terrorist groups, yes they would be
considered part of the al qaeda network.

i take it you're referring to connections that are tenuous
at best, not what cheney thinks exists.

"There was a relationship between Iraq and al-Qaida," Bush
insisted following a meeting with his Cabinet at the White
House.

bush and cheney are liars

throughout our presence in irag they have maintained that
there is a long history of cooperation between al qaeda and
the iraqi government.

this is not true, and they know it. they've asserted this
claim in order to win our confidence and support for a war
in which hundreds of innocent lives have been lost on both
sides. they've fattened their pockets. and if they come
out and say, "well, what we REALLY meant was that there was
kind of a link, it wasn't a direct link, just a vague
link..." etc. we need to expose them for the liars,
murderers and thieves that they are.

would anyone still like to defend them at this point?

I'm loving David Crosseseses new liveshow..

"We're going to the moon.. we're going to the MOOON... {..}
we have to go to the moon, we have to sink all the
rest of our money into the moon.. first of all, I didn't
know there was oil up there, apparently there is.."
