What are your fave films which have a music based plot? I'm scratching my head here, but can only think of a few..
Almost Famous Spinal Tap O Brother Where Art Thou? Blues Brothers
And 'Singles' don't count

I saw Spinal Tap on Just for Laughs the other day... it was funny, cause they were playing Stonehenge, and the small little monolith thing came down, and then these midgets came out and started dancing around it... heh, I love that movie...

a clockwork orange. kubrick les amants du pont neuf. carax la bête. borowczyk dancer in the dark. von trier mullholland drive. lynch
some of these are pretty obscure and/or extreme i guess (la bête), but anyway great movies with music as a main part of the film (wasn't music always one of the main parts of kubrick's films?)

Sergio Leone got ENNIO MORRICONE to write the score to ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA before shooting a single second.
Then he blasted out this score on set and shot accordingly!! FUCKIN A
Good Bad and Ugly also follows the rythyms of the score as does Once Upon a Time in the West
