The new album has more of an old skool vibe to it. there are 3 or 4 good tracks, but overall it sounds too similar to their older stuff. If you are after a follow up to hello nasty, this is not it.
It sounds like the Ill communication sort of era. Its not very good if you ask me, but listen for yourself. Personally, I think its just a repeat of stuff they did a decade ago, and not any advancement.

yeah listening to it (mp3 stylee) right now, it's nice, but just the same old nu-style beastie boys... although all the raps are very political anti-bush etc which is a nice change but they still can't seem to rap about the same topic for more than 2 lines.
ch-check it out certainly isn';t one of the better songs on the album...
golden rule: don't buy, download. fuck 'em. :D

no longer beastie boys. more like beastie grandpas. i think they need to re-invent themselves.=

everything they do sounds similar to stuff they already did that was better than what they are doing is a lot of crappy rehash of stuff they already did that before and it was better the first time i heard it i was digging it but the hundredth time they repeated what they already did and it was crappy.

not heard it yet. these guys just seem quite limited on ideas. they'll have a few inspired moments and then repeat them ad-infinitum. moments like mike d's contribution to the unkle record just make me feel as though theyre pretty lazy. that rap was a carbon copy of the flow in 'intergalactic' with different words. gives off this feeling that theyre not really bothered what they do.
need to tighten quality control.
i liked the flute loop on their old track "you can't you won't and you don't stop" (the actualy name escapes me).. that had a nice gritty feel to it.
but as i said, they seem to have had a handful of decent ideas spread over a twenty year career..

thats from ill communication
ive heard all their albums and i only realy enjoy listening to ill communication and the new one. Ill is way better than the new one, but i still find it easier to listen to.
i hate their earlier stuff, it sounds so 80's. Their stuff does all sound the same though, fortunately most of their new tracks are generally under 3 minutes.

haha i can't believe youre citing the fact that their songs are (mercifully) short as being a "pro"!
perhaps you just shouldn't listen if you don't enjoy them..?

I know there's, quite rightly, a strong anti-Pitchfork sentiment here, and I agree, but the review of this album (found here) is very interesting, even if you're not into this particular album. Well, I think anyway.
"Still, my interaction with music goes well beyond simple, academic analysis of sound. Nostalgia, emotional context, the continued story and history behind the artist, the packaging, and everything else matters in my love and fascination with music. This is why writing for Pitchfork, which prides itself on discovering unknown underground artists, means so little to me anymore. Listening to music as some form of continued, insular experiment with recording driven by faceless, MP3-based rock bands bores me..."

The production is sleek, subtle and fucking red hot. If you want "Hello Nasty II" or "Ill Communication II" you'll be disappointed, but if you want an inventive, streamlined, fun, 21st century "old school" album then this delivers in spades. The upshot is if you don't like the Beastie Boys you won't like this album, but if you do, you'll recognise the glaring genius of this album that renders every other release this year looking seriouly malnourished and pissy.

it really really sucks. Very sub-beastie-standard stuff. Gave it three chances but it failed to interest. I like true oldschool beats, these were just plain boring with lyrics to match. This is like Beastie Boys with the life squeezed out of it.
