aphex influence

Netlon Sentinel from beyond on 2001-05-03 12:21 [#00005527]

what popular songs you think have been influenced by aphex
twin? i think missy elliot's latest single has. anyone?

ps sorry, this topic is aphex related...

phiz from Amsterdam on 2001-05-03 12:59 [#00005531]

I think he influenced some sounds and beats on the Outkast
album Stankonia.

rubbish john from an inkwell on 2001-05-03 14:22 [#00005535]

in what way does missy elliot's latest effort sound as if it
is influenced by the aphex twin?
i'm not sure how familiar you are with the works of missy
elliot, but i'm gonna have to disagree with you on that
one.
i think that all aphex twin's stuff is so incredibly diverse
that it would be difficult to suggest that a particular song
is influenced by him.

i dont listen to pop music, so i cant help you lot of sad
s-club 8, and here we say or what ever, get a life, and DONT
listen to the mass produced music for the masses!

blip on 2001-05-03 16:25 [#00005545]

Dear Po{e}: You are a SNOB

rubbish john from a bag of chips on 2001-05-03 16:33 [#00005549]

po{e} - and there was me, after all the other stuff that you
have written on this site, thinking that you were infact the
no.1 fan of westlife.
i think that perhaps YOU are the one who needs to get a life
and please do start with an attempt at getting a better
attitude and stop slagging off anyone who doesn't fit into
your totally anally retentive, pseudo perfect, aphex twin
fan stereotype.

I think the majority of every question asked on this board
is worth a million unspoken sweet nothings. Its obvious pop
music influenced Aphex and not the other way around.

ClobeSmith from over here on 2001-05-04 07:06 [#00005593]

would any of you say that rdj has influenced radiohead?
i've heard thom yorke and him are actually good friends and
there might have been a collaboration on "idioteque" from
kid a, though i don't know how likely that is.

Rob Fragilenine from Australia on 2001-05-04 07:09 [#00005594]

idioteque... is that the one that has the windowlicker beat?

ClobeSmith from over here on 2001-05-04 07:14 [#00005596]

sort of, yeah, listening to it right now, i can see/hear
idioteque in windowlicker.

idioteque is, um, lemme think, track 8. you know, the
depressing radiohead song (depressing radiohead song -- hell
you say).

Rob Fragilenine from Australia on 2001-05-04 07:19 [#00005597]

my fav track from kid a would have to be track 1 everything
in its right place. it sounds so much like aphex its not
funny.
have you heard radioheads 'new' song pyramid song?

ClobeSmith from over here on 2001-05-04 07:26 [#00005598]

i'm pretty much addicted to radiohead as of now. i LOVE kid
a. listen to it daily ... repeatedly. yeah, it's sad.

pyramid song is cool. seen the video?

Rob Fragilenine from Australia on 2001-05-04 07:28 [#00005599]

nah i can't say i have...

rubbish john from a big balloon on 2001-05-04 11:20 [#00005621]

yeah, i think that thom yorke is influenced by the aphex
twin and a whole load of other shit.
on of my mates (who isn't always reliable) said he heard
thom yorke on the radio saying that one of his all time
favourite tracks was an aphex twin tune.
my friend did not care to note down what tune it was, but
please forgive him as he has no arms.

Ok Computer is actually really good too, althoguh not very
electronic. Climbing up the walls is very creepy.

Pyramid song sounds very grand. Very very very. Very very
very very very very very very very very.

Ramalpha84 from New Zealand (www.mp3.com/aureus) on 2001-05-04 11:25 [#00005624]

You know, "very" and "hunting" are two of those words that
sound really stupid if you say it out loud several times.

Scary Bear on 2001-05-04 12:10 [#00005630]

Hell yeah Radiohead are definitly influenced by Aphex, as
well as Autechre and Charles Mingus, well those were all
mentioned on an interview. There are probably listening to
other that they found on the Warp label. It all depends what
mood your in but I don't think that AFX is the best guy on
the warp label, especially afer Windowlicker came out.
Tortoise have surpassed that.

But yeah trying to get back on subject, if you ever read any
more commercial stuff like NME you may have noticed an issue
all about influencial artists. AFX came in 5th or something.
Not that that says it all, it's probably not true either. If
musicians want influences they are going to have to look
more underground though coz otherwise they will get drawn
into a commercial black whole. Once musicians start getting
lazy like U2, their stuff sounds like drivel, didn't used to
be like that, they had a difference. Now I have heard all of
their songs and probably future songs to come, coz they are
all the fucken same!!! Maybe slightly overgeneralised and I
coulkd be wrong but that is what it looks like.

I was just about to finish typing when good friend Alex
shouted down the stairs: apparently I should be reccomending
an album called Brain Dance. Never heard it. A compilation
aparently, presumably named after the term "intelligent
dance music" (AFX). Oh I don't know what I am talking about,
forgot waht I started off saying!

Fuck it, goota go pack my bag.

Laters.

Piece.

takeshi on 2001-05-04 17:14 [#00005656]

i read somewhere thom yorke bought the whole warp catalouge
before recording kid a

od from australia on 2001-05-05 07:46 [#00005697]

yeah i think i read that too....
the thing is that afx still sort of SOUNDS underground (to
me he seems to be getting even weirder..i mean lots of his
old stuff was nice and good tunes and that but not really
weird), but since hes incredibly popular....does that mean
he's pop? i mean after all pop music is just popular
music... i dont really consider afx as underground anymore.
i think the mp3.com/ampcast artist are about as underground
as you can get! (with the exception of me of course coz i
write electro! hhahaa) sorry bout that just my little 2
cents worth.....
but i still reckon itd be pretty wired to view afx as the
new face of boytbands everywhere. lol AccapellaFX

Netlon Sentinel from beyond on 2001-05-05 13:15 [#00005707]

rubbish john: well i think missy elliot's crazy beats and
rythms sound aphex-like. or perhaps more warp in general.
but you're right, i'm not too familiar with her other works.

rubbish john from your local supermarket on 2001-05-08 09:45 [#00005878]

missy elleiot's latest effort is (i think) is typical of her
style of hip-hop - hardcore, 'in yer face' hip-hop.

Netlon Sentinel from beyond on 2001-05-08 19:18 [#00005912]

hmmm. ok. well, the beat in get ur freak on reminded me of
the break in bucephalus bouncing ball.
but it's prolly just me :)
