Underrated peice of work...OK it wasn't the drum and bass
follow up people where expecting, and yes it had lost the
Playford era sounds but still there are some really heart
felt moments on the album.

I like it.

NOt a bad release, but not a great one either. Maybe Ill dig
it out tonight and give it a whirl again.

i only have ring of saturn, the follow up of saturnzreturn.
haven't given saturnzreturn a listen (maybe skimmed through
it once or twice, i have the mp3s)

optical co-produced it. he's my favourite producer in
drum&bass.

Opticals a bit of a one trick pony...two step with phased
bass...got really predictable really quickly (obviously that
is just personal opinion).

well i think dnb in general is very predictable.

well, that can be said basicly about every drum&bass track
98 till now. it's a real simple way of descriping his tunes.

Not really. There are producers out there who do try
different things with a bit of diversity. Optical is very
good, I just don't think he is the best out there.

it captures that moment in time when drum and bass started
to get a bit tired perfectly

Yeah... I have this and .... I don't dig it.

Back in early highschool I heard some insane drum n bass on
the radio, went out to buy some, picked up this release and
grooverider's mysteries of funk, and whereas mysteries is
still cool they kinda killed drum n bass for me. I wanted
the kinda dark bassline aggro shit.

mysteries of funk. now there's an album that does
that late 90s DnB sound well

i learnt to juggle to that album :)

Also that techsteppy pop-DnB that Aphrodite was peddling
around 1998/99 was ACE!!

I liked mysteries of funk less that ringz of saturn,
probably less than saturnz return too.

mysteries of funk kicks booty, it's also co-produced by
optical :)

As far as both albums are concerned...I guess I would pick
Grooveriders over Goldie's.
Both albums seems to wear out real quick, but that may be my
stubborness. (Is that a word?)

That track with David Bowie on it.

What a load of wank.
Exhibit A.

Ganja Kru's Supa Sharp Shooter was ace though - I'm getting
quite misty-eyed and nostalgic here :'(

Am I the only one who adores the 60min MOTHER track?...

BTW his recent book "NINE LIVES : GOLDIE" is a great read -
going back to his Graf days thru the days of RAGE at Heaven,
TERMINATOR to TIMELESS to SATURN RETURNZ....

Recommended....if you wanna understand the guy a little
better...

and yeah..he mixes most of his work on E .... perfect geezer
he is...

(shit, I sound like I'm in Love...:)...

Isn't that other disc two tracks - mother and saturn,
somewhere around half an hour each?

Yeah, that's the wank i'm on about.

My original of Drukqs is scratchd t'fuck. so mp3 copies of
same now reside in Saturnz's snazzy case. The album itself
now resides in my 'doesn't even merit a case' drawer.

Mother is around 60 mins...Disc 1 of SR...(followed by some
crappy little track I think...)..

InnerCityLife/Jah etc...is 21mins, I think...

Rings of Saturn is like a remix album of SR - (with a 8min
ver mother..VIP remix....)...

I so wish some phucker hadn't borrowed my 2 CD ver of
TIMELESS....

A Guy Called Geralds "Black Secret Technology" is THE
DnB/Jungle album...

Forgotten classic...(2 versions iirc - Original & a remixed,
with more BASS, later re-release...)...

BUY IT/DL IT....you won't regret it....

Nobody does it better!!..

I like "Mother" but I felt some of it was too stretched out
and exhausting for me personally. I liked a lot of the
phrases though like the whole phasey rain thing and that
syncopated pizzicato buildup. My favorite Goldie would still
be "Inner City Life". "Temper Temper" has this weird lilt to
it that always strikes me, it's quite the precedessor of
Punk/DnB crossovers that became more common since. I wonder
when Goldie will release another artist album of original
tracks? :)

heh...That first 6 mins of noise at the begginning is either
very brave, very stupid or somekind of test...

And yeah, TT, is very cool....I've got a number of Goldie CD
singles & I believe that has the video on it...

Time to do some digging....

Dragonfly is a lovely, lovely piece of work. I think this
album tends to get slated unneccesarily... i mean it's a bit
patchy, but not the mess that everyone made it out to be.

Wormhole wasn't that good. In fact it was mostly shit. I
can listen to a couple of tracks then I get bored and turn
it off.

i borrowed it from the library one time and wasn't feeling
it. timeless is one of my favorite albums ever. i wish more
dnb artists would make ALBUMS instead of fucking singles.
