vsnares - huge chrome goodness

This new album is AWFULLY good. A serious step forward for
Mr. Funk. After a few listens all the way through it really
starts to show its colors and *gasp* structure.

Steady gothic melodies and chords with intricate, sharp,
synthetic percussion. By far the most "IDM" of any snares
releases... closer to the WITBOAS vibe. Also reminds me
quite a bit of Drukqs in places.

Favorite tracks so far: Vida, Li2CO3, Keek, Nineteen 1319.

Yeah it's hella nice. More "replay value" than most snares
albums.

Li2CO3 is the bomb :) and the last track too, that's pretty
intense in places, too bad they don't last very long.

I still think WITBOAS is overall better, the vocals and
stuff really added something to that one. But this is very
good.

my fav is also cadmium lung jacket. the resin effect where
the drums like just go fucking "i'm outside, maybe i'll be
on the roof" for like two beats then they step back in and
proceed down a corridor of plasticene.

In a (not very) interesting aside, Li2CO3 is the chemical
symbol for lithium carbonate, used in batteries and
controlled nuclear fusion reactors. But you knew that
already.

Lol of course, I googled it when the tracklisting was
published. I'm cool.

Hey an even cooler thing would be to try and decode that
mathematical sum that the computer voice recites in Keek.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the 'you have my
number' sample later in the album???

I've had this song on repeat for a while now. I can't help
but feel like Cadmium Lung Jacket is quite Autechre-ish and
even remeniscent of VI Scose Poise, albeit much harsher...
and I mean that in the best possible way :D

It really makes me think of Confield / Gantz Graf and where
I actually expected Draft to go.

Anyone?

I think there's alot of emphasis on metallic-like textures
and playing with the space of the sounds, similar to what Ae
did with Confield and Gantz Graf.

Don't just scan it quickly once or twice (I made this
mistake with the clips a few weeks ago)... it requires
multiple listens. And make sure you have some good
headphones or monitors.
