XLT favicon?

offline Ganymede from Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius on 2004-06-08 19:27 [#01230274]

Does anyone else think that the mb should have a cool
little favicon to make it stand out some more? We could run
a mini-contest to see posters' submissions and then lobby
Phobiazero to put it on the server.

favicons are little icons that come up in your address bar.

i don't see the point, really.

thanks for filling in the explanation, xf.

I agree that they're kind of pointless in general, but I
still think they're kind of neat.

they're just a little detail that makes a website experience
ever so slightly more robust.

they help brand a website.. just like any icon.

How about a proper site to go with that favicon?

I'm joking of course.

it would be nice getting a xlt "favicon"

If you say XLT quick enough, in a funny accent, it sounds
like CLIT. Would a dirty great clit make a good favicon for
XLT?

I think the XLT logo contest produced inconclusive results,
since I didn't enter a submission.

Hmm, actually none of them are showing up for me. Anyone
know how to activate them?/ They sometimes show up when I
add websites to my favorites list, but they often disappear.

if you use a proper web browser a website's favicon
will appear just to the left of the sites URL in the
location bar.

if you're unfortunate enough to still be using internet
explorer you will probably only see the favicon in your
favorites list once you bookmark a site.

it's a little image. an icon if you will.

It think this is a great idea. I always get the impression
that websites with these things are extra swanky, deluxe
sweet. But I'm one of those fanboy fruits that would love to
have an XLT skin for my Winamp, for my Opera browser, for my
jacket, etc.

offline dog_belch from Netherlands, The on 2004-06-08 20:23 [#01230369]

Well all of these things would only take a couple of hours
to sort out, so if you want it, either do it or let one of
the willing punters do it.

They're actually really easy to create too: it's just a
regular Windows .ico format file that is saved under the
name "favicon.ico" at the root directory of the server.

What Ecnadniarb said.

Shit, I just proved your point about originality.

Ophecks: I want a biker patch to sew onto a jacket/back.
That woiuld be awesome.

Ganymede: Damn good idea- it'd be a good source of designs
for XLT merch. too- stickers, posters, slipmatts, T shirts,
etc.
