I work on the magazine, and I'm from the UK.... any country is fine. Most of the contacts are in the US currently, but its possible to sort business out with new people too!

look at that.. Richard D. James comments on "Pi"..
Have you seen the movie Pi?
Yes I saw it. The movie was bad, I think they could have done it a lot better. A lot of people told me it was really good but I must've seen a different movie than them. For starters, that computer, what was up with that? Why didn't they just use a PC? I don't understand what was the need of that big machine!
yes and in all that music, why didn't they just use NORMAL instruments, eh? eh? eh?

the same guy who "interviewed" Aphex Twin (he had a chat with him and then later penned down what he remembered) also interviewed Puddle of Mudd.
oh dear.

yes.. which also answers the question why they didn't use a normal PC in "Pi" - it would look different.
therefore have a different meaning and more importantly, completely different effect.

the reason why they didn't just use a pc is cause the film is based in the 70's... i'm so disappointed now... i don't know if i can ever listen to rdj again :P

I didn't know Pi was set in the 70's, that's not my fault, that's the fault of the filmmakers. I do know that film was shit though, that wasn't my fault either, that was the fault of the filmmakers.
I will write for your magazine, I have written quite a lot of reviews and bits before, I can send them on to you or not, as the case may be.

no, i don't think it's the fault of the filmmakers that it wasn't clear, because it wasn't necessary for it to be clear, it'd be really lame if they'd tossed in some gratuitous milieu just so we could all say, "oh! a fro! THIS MUST BE THE 1970s!"

if it's integral to the film that it's set in the 70s then YES THEY DO HAVE TO MAKE IT CLEAR and if they have any talent they'll do it without employing a big fucking disco ball that flashes THIS IS THE 70s but then then the makers of Pi wouldn't have had the wit because it's a shit film with a so-so soundtrack.

is it really integral to the film? so far the only reason that has come up in this thread is that Dickie thought there should have been a normal pc in it... personally, i'm a fan of pi (i think it's way better than Requiem For A Dream), but that just me...

i've changed my mind, that big computer and the ambiguity over the decade in which the narrative takes place totally undermine the film as a whole. pi is shit.

no, no.. clearly a big computer and nobody quite knowing whether it was set in the age of big computers or not makes pi an utterly terrible piece of cinema. even richard says so.

"clearly a big computer and nobody quite knowing whether it was set in the age of big computers"
does it matter when it was set? There was no cellphones, no internet, etc. (shown in the movie).
Anyway I think the big disk he got in the mail gave it away, but the movie wasn't about when it was set - if you thought that was the main conflict, you have misinterpreted the movie.
