Is there any electronic artist better than Aphex Twin?
I havent found one if there is. heck, he beats the hell out of most artists in any genre.

He doesn't beat the Beatles, that's a given.
Squarepusher... I think he's on AFX's level, but my opinion sways constantly... I may prefer one to the other depending on the day.

The Beatles & AFX don't even compete on the same wave length. Yes, of course the Beatles fucking rule... but we're talking about "ELECTRONIC MUSIC"... not Classic rock that's timeless.
Squarepusher is close but very very different.

excluding afx's remix of GLASS's version of a bowie song, i think a real collaboration between bowie and afx would suck, honestly. maybe a remix would go ok but a collabo wouldn't work out. too different.
bowie's been talking for years about a bowie/eno/reznor album tho. yum.
as for squarepusher, i love the guy but let's be real for a minute, those albums he released in 1999 had quite a bit of filler. i'd even say a lot of it is boring. how many aphex twin albums are boring or have filler? i think richie's track record is exponentially better than tommy boy's, even if some squarepusher songs are more interesting than aphex twin's.

well aphex is a electro king. You can find loads of varios artist doing their 5min song and build it like
intro,blabla,chorus,blabla,bridge,chorus,outro. but Aphex goes beyond.
Great variations lasts. Not boring. Maby a nice melody but why not fuck it up a little bit, just for fun ya know.
thats aphex and nothing goes beynd that. yeeah

Well, excuse me good sirs, but when it gets down to the cutting edge of electronic music there are NONE greater than the incomparable Autechre!
Aphex is good. Very good. In fact, extremely good. But as he is more of an entertainer and jester of our nightmares, he is always a few steps behind the digital scientists and semi-gods called Autechre. There lies the cutting and painfully sharp egde.
Make love, not babies.

sometimes i'd rather listen to Rob Hubbard's stuff (for example Sanxion, Delta, Commando)
in case you don't know the him, he was No.1 at making tunes for C64 games. sounds like its the type of thing that would have inspired AFX.

If you view on the technical point there´s no one else than autechre !
That´s my point.
Their songs are much more complex structured.
No doubt about it.
Their music is like mathmatic.
But in the end I like Richards music much more
He´s the one that blows me really away.
Don´t wanna say much about it.
His music speaks for it / him self.
Music don´t has to be more technical to be the best.
Think about it.

MATMOS beats AFX in the creative sounds department (breaking bones, static electricity pads, crushed snow percussion, etc). Claude Dubussy very easily beats his piano tracks. Biosphere's Substrata beats his ambient albums. AFX still remains at the top at what he does best. IMHO.

i think people saying autechre are better than richard d. james are forgetting the history factor of their music and a whole lot of other stuff. and their tracks arent more complex, sometimes they may be more deconstructed but the fibre of it isnt more complex. aphex twin is the best electronic/sonically chanlenging artist out there, in my opinion.

And on the note of complexity, if you listen to drukqs carefully, it is a fucking masterpiece (primarily the faster tracks). Not even autechre can shape sound as Aphex can (or at least of what i have heard, and I have heard a lot). And while listening to tracks on drukqs there is virtually no repetition, in reference to his fast pieces.
I do appreciate autechre though very much for what they do as well. As for squarepusher, from what I have heard he is close to the raw creativity but still lacks the pure ability of Aphex Twin to mold every concievable sound into music.
There are a couple of really interesting mu-ziq tracks as well. I like his individual sound.
One artist I am interested in learning more about is that Flashbulb guy. You know, the supposed person behind Finnelbuk or whatever. I found that quite different.
here's a question: why do people like DJ Shadow so much, i saw his name appear some other posts. Like most DJs, it was just repetitive. But I suppose I shouldnt hold djs to the ranks of electronic artists such as Aphex twin.
I will check out those other artists mentioned above in this post, thanks for the suggestions. I enjoy hearing original music. And cant understand people who like crappy music.
But as of now, Aphex is still King!

whoever mentioned the future sound of london, they sure are excellent. they are the second electronic act i got to like and they surely are special, to me at least. i really adore the latest "dead cities" and all of their albums are interesting. but i think their sounds arent as diversed as other electronic artists out there.

because dj shadow is the most creative sonic alchemist ever. listen to his debut lp "endtroducing." the entire thing is made up of samples. not only are the songs he samples obscure (practically unknown to anyone BUT him) but the way he uses samples is revolutionary. he'll builds totally original songs out of samples from dozens and dozens of songs from very disparate genres, from jazz to funk to hip-hop to techno to pop. he has the most amazing sense of rhythm and melody. he would have to to have that kind of vision in his mind, how he could create a whole 3-15 minute masterpiece out of a song from 50 different songs he has on vinyl. he's a true musical genius on the level of aphex twin. his music is totally different but equally interesting. recommended if you like chilled out music and creative hip-hop (minus the rapping).

i would have to say autechre, squarepusher, and mu-ziq all get pretty close but i wouldnt put any one artist above any other one. richard certainly has great things about his music but all of the artists mentioned by me or other people have something to offer. richard has a history that shadows others of course. putting out his first record when he was 16 i believe? i dont know who else can say that. but still...

Regarding Ae, I think they are not to be compared. Saying one beats the other is like saying Micheal Jordan is better than (insert top athlete of a different sport here). No one beats Aphex at what he does and same goes for Autechre.
