Making Percussion Sounds?

A couple of people have given me advice about making
percussion sounds, which I more-or-less could not get my
head around :D (Although I will study more what they
suggested..)

The only way I really know to make percussion, is to fiddle
with WAV files of non-percussion thingies, and loops small
bits to see if any "hidden" hits or loops reveal
themselves.

Does anyone here know of other ways to create percussion?!

=)

u can record almost any "small hit" and then do some very
simple basic tweaking and u will find many interesting short
perc sounds..

it doesnt really matter if u have a decent mic or not.. u
can use an old computer mic they are acctually really good
for recording wicked sounds

Have you heard the sequel? Sanres samples Hecate giving
birth!

Innovation

Nope. Have heard the prequel though. Snares sampling Hecate
being born.

fool around with an envelope generator and you can make
percussive sounds from anything

from what i've seen, you can sample just about any noise or
phrase and find a percussive sound in there.

Just speak a phrase into your machine, and select certain
regions of the waveform. you'll find many interesting sounds
there.

add effects and you'll find even more

Record them yourself.

on Huge Chrome Cylinder Box Unfolding, snares made a large
amount of the samples/percussion sounds from sampled
circuit-bent electronics

if you are smart enough to do that, id like to hear how it
turns out.

try taking any drum sound and exploring it. most of the time
i'm able to turn one snare into about eight or more sounds
just by chopping it up and such. have fun with your drums,
use every bit of each piece with them to their fullest
extent.

also you can get some nice drum samples from vinyl
breakbeats, cutting out kicks and snares and such.

yes, that's what I've already done! What about synthesizing
percussion noises!

ahh, synthesizing percussion........i've not done much of
that. There are patches in Reason for the Subtractor that
are percussion sounds.

Open the patches up and examine how the sound is
synthesized.....ADSR envelope settings, modulation settings
etc etc etc, and then try to recreate a similar sound
yourself.

oh - there is where i'm not too enlightened. msot of my
drums are sampled from:

Alesis SR-16
Roland CR-80
Yamaha DD5
Yamaha DD9
Various vinyl
Keyboards
and stuff around the house like pipes and boxes

Anything can be a percussive noise, really.
