i haven't read much about music DVD's. This afternoon i had
music dvd's in my hands from Massive Attack, Enigma,
Air..... and i was wondering if the DVD extras are worth
buying this DVD? Like, cool visual effects, bonus stuff,
whatever......

Does anyone own some like these, or other artists.... do IDM
dvd's exist...? like the chris cunningham dvd, only more...

please talk about it!

1996: they can be cool. depends tho... last music dvd's i
bought were primus & ween, both realllllly good, but ween
was a bit lacking on extras, besides the bonus audio disc of
the show. primus had so much stuff...

oh yeah and i also bought the cunningham dvd, but again not
as much stuff. heard gondry & jonez were better.

Well there's the gantz graf dvd and meam - the L, I can't
think of any others that haven't been mentioned though.

I'm bumping this topic to make it widely known that I am
clearly visible in the Ween dvd that forck_02lynix
mentioned. You can see me in the encore in the middle,
about 10 feet from the stage. Especially during "Booze Me
Up And Get Me High," but also during other parts of the
concert.

the orbital 'altogether' dvd is really great. i had it but
some wanker nicked it, but it's really worth the money -
lots of great extras, and it's produced... interestingly.

'Scratch', a documentary about turntablism and scratching is
very worth buying. There's a bonus DVD that teaches
you basic scratching techniques like flares and such.

Yep. Scratch is excellent. One of the few films where the
directors commentary is worth watching too...

I'm guessing they use custom menus with nice artwork for the
track listings on music DVDs right? Or do they just use
your DVD player's default user interface, like when playing
audio CDs?

I recently bought The Chameleons - Singing Rule Britannia

It has a gig from camden palace which is pretty good, then
it has this terrible footage of a live performance mixed
with interviews and it the sound quality is shite, it was
taken from a spanish documentary.

gantz graf dvd, meam, chris cunningham. all good stuff.
'pink floyd live in Pompeii' is ace if you're pleasantly
monged. lots of bubbling mud and statues with floyd playing
in the background. nice.

Meam have a DVD/Cd out on Skam, the music Cd isn't great but
the DVD is actually quite good, their tracks work much
better with visuals.

Air gave a free DVD away with "Walkie Talkie", it's pretty
good, well put together.

Hell yeah! You can really only see me if you're looking,
but I had dark brown hair about to my eyebrows (at the time)
and pretty significant sideburns. You may not be able to
find me, but since I see myself every day, I'm pretty
familiar with what I look like.

Ween played 3 shows in Chicago that weekend. A friend and I
went to the Friday and Saturday shows, and they filmed the
Saturday and Sunday shows for the DVD. It was a pretty
awesome time. They really know how to put on a goddamn
show, as you can tell from watching the DVD. It's too bad
they didn't put "Pandy Fackler" on it, because Glenn had an
amazing crazy keyboard solo during it.

that's awesome. next time ween is around i'm definately
going (missed the last nyc show).

it's a great dvd, don't get me wrong, but i wish they played
some more obscure "devoted-fan" kinda stuff...more gws &
pod. better yet, it'd be great for them to release a dvd of
their videos and other live performances, including any
older stuff. i know there's weentv on winamp, but a dvd
would be great.

Has anyone seen that Intellect documentary on electronic
music? I believe it covers mainly "house" "techno"
"progressive" according to the packaging. It seems to be not
that heard of -- I looked up some casual info on
Amazon.com.

:)

Yeah, I agree about the obscure shit. They played "Demon
Sweat" and "Nan" the first night, but unfortunately they
weren't taping that night so they couldn't be on the dvd.
In fact, they only played "Pork Roll Egg & Cheese" because
some hot girl in the front row had a sign that said it.

"hi. my name is fuckin eddie dingle. i met this girl named
nan - she overpopulated my senses."

that's a great song, i would have loved to see that on the
dvd. and it's cool that they played pork roll...just
thinking of when they "played" that in it's pat!
