i hear liam scrapped all the stuff he had before (like
Baby's Got a Temper) - and started fresh with something
better - which i was glad to hear

hopefully he doesnt disappoint.

he wont disappoint. If he was going to disappoint, he would
have released the entire album he had ready for release two
years ago. I have much respect for him for ditching that
whole album. Its got to take some serious discipline to do
something like that.

there was an old thread on the prodigy, with a link to an
extensive interview with howlett about how he realised the
prodigy were shit now (my words, not his) and how he was
starting from scratch on the lp.
don't think they set a definitive release date in that
interview though.

this album sucks,
man i was so looking forward to it and when i heard the
tracks i was so disappointed,
when i heard it would be 'more focussed on the beats' i
hoped it'd be less rock/punk and vocals, just the old
weather experience and hyperspeed-ish beats, but man o man
did he screw up.
btw the frontcover is just as crappy as the tracks imo

i'm hearing very mixed reports..

i still think there's good material on the prodigy's first
two LPs.. but fat of the land holds little or no
interest for me now.

i don't listen to them that often.

one report i read said this album was far more dancefloor
oriented than anything they've done in years.

those of you that own it already, what do you think?

offline Jarworski from The Grove (United Kingdom) on 2004-08-25 05:33 [#01313929]

its dirty glam punk or something

erm... what did i just say?

i like it. Some of it isnt as good as other parts, but i
like the dirty sounds. It sounds like that grime CD in terms
of dirtyness. It is quite dancey. It doesnt sound like any
of their other albums, but none of them sound like each
other.

im not going to apologise for liking it.

songs.

haha.
we'll need a third opinion to tip the balance either way.

good to catch you online mr triplet. haven't heard from you,
or had any news about you in quite some time. how was your
birthday? did you go out with tom and the others? tom had
asked me if i wanted to come along ages ago, but i wasn't
around at the time. what did you end up doing?
i presume you're on a nice long summer break at the moment,
before work starts again in a few weeks?

yeah i dont have the internet at home, and i only get a
chance to use it now at work, which doesnt start until sept
1st. Ive been on holiday for 6 weeks, been to prague, been
to v festival. My birthday was a laugh, we went into town
and hit various bars and i got pretty wasted. I got kicked
out at the end and dont remember getting home. i remember
being sick plenty though. Doh. Ive been writing a 30 minute
setlist for my new electronic/live thing called Du:Ki
We start rehearsing next week.

my friend downloaded a 'pre-alpha' version of the album in
the beginning of august, from theprodigy.ru, and it sucks a
lot, in comparison to previous Prodigy stuff, as for me.
Maybe, that shit is not a Prodigy album at all. We here have
a lot of non-existent albums, like Portishead 'pearl', and
an album by Junkie XL has been referred to as and sold as
the new Prodigy album for at least a year across the former
USSR.

i'm forcing myself to listen to this again, maybe i might
change my mind, but it seems unlilkely.

its so formulaic & amateur sounding

guitar stabb, breakbeat, vocal sample, ad infinitum

the last good prodigy album was jilted generation. fat of
the land was a joke. liam howlett should stick to humping
his big gobbed wife as opposed to making his predictable
"big beat" music.
