Yep, Amnesiac is the best radiohead album.

The Aluminum Group- ''Happyness'', ultra cool, nice use of
some jazzy pretty synths. Seelenluft- ''Out of the Woods''
has some minor, sometimes major electronic flavor to some of
the tracks, too. And of course, much Hood.

Good call on the M83, that track is such a heart tickler,
great stuff.

The new Bark Psychosis album whenever it's released, by
which time the whole world will have tired of listening to
the mp3s.

I used to quite like the Lo-Fidelity Allstars, would they
fit in this bracket?

Bark Psychosis=One of the best bands that ever was

But I didn't list them because they fit more towards the
"post rock" thing for me, I used to know their keyboard
player, I'm not sure he was much of a knob twiddler, same
for Sigor Ros who also =One of the best bands ever.

To be honest though I don't like to place things into little
musical boxes, I guess you kind of have to sometimes though,
otherwise it could get too eclectic and people would be
listing Elton John or something.

Are they doing a new New album (if so wow!), I heard it was
gonna be like a bootleg of old gigs (which if so again, wow!,
they did some of the best gigs I've ever seen)

They do have a new album, the date keeps getting put back,
called, oddly, Codename:Dustsucker. There are two very nice
mp3s on the record label, especially the track Rose, on
ummmm www.firerecords.com. Go to the Audio bit. The live
compilation i think you mention is on the increasingly
desperate, scraping the barrel 3rd Stone Records, and some
suggest it isn't live at all but just the records played in
another room and recorded onto a dictaphone.

That really surprises me, The band basically split up
because Hex was a complete commercial disaster, even though
it is probably one of the best albums ever made, there is no
justice in this world, their label apparantly pumped a ton
of money into them but dropped them like hot cakes when
no-one bought the album.
I remember talking to Daniel (the keyboard player) about it
and he just seemed to write off the whole experience of
recording Hex as a terrible time in his life, maybe he was
being a bit O.T.T but I really never thought they would ever
get back together.

Well, great news, it just goes to show that good music can
win in the end, now all we need now is for people to
actually buy the danm thing, so err.. think before you
download.

Hex is one of the greatest albums of all time, and it's
legend has grown and grown so I suspect it still sells
today. But it was never going to be a hit album and I think
it would have been unwise to bank on it being big. Maybe if
they'd released "Blue" beforehand as a single, and included
"Scum" on the album... I agree about them being Post-Rock
but I'd put "Blue" as Electronica Rock. What a lovely tune,
i am going to play it now.

offline soundguy from London (United Kingdom) on 2004-06-03 18:01 [#01221659]
Points: 734 Status: Regular

I dunno, I think Hex could have done a lot better then it
did, it was around the time when that sort of music was at a
high spot, lots of clubs n events going on, and Bark were
doing loads of gigs, getting rave reviews in the press etc
but for some reason the album didn't sell enough to sustain
them.
Though it might just have appeared like that at the time to
me because almost everyone I knew was a fan, it's not really
commercial material but nor is Sigor Ros and they sold loads
more records (maybe Bark should have bidded for the Vanilla
Sky soundtrack, maybe not).

Any yeah, true sayings about Blue, it's very New Order (a
good thing) and therefore electronica and a great track, I
don't like the remix of Big Shot on that single though cos
it spoils one of their greatest tracks IMO.

Hmmm, i think it's the same with Disco Inferno. I remember a
review in Melody Maker, where they had their 3rd single of
the week in a row and the reviewer said you should tatoo
under your eyelids "This is the greatest band ever and you
never bothered to listen to them", or words to that effect.
Rave reviews but noone bought the records. Even only all the
good bands held on for the Internet, and people getting into
them 10 years later.... Wooooah, don't get me started on Gay
Dad.

offline soundguy from London (United Kingdom) on 2004-06-03 18:15 [#01221669]
Points: 734 Status: Regular

Yeah I remember Disco Inferno, you know I kind of forgot
about them, it's because it's on vinyl and I'm pretty much
all mp3 nowadays so I haven't listened to it for ages, it's
just a chore to record/edit all your vinyl sometimes.
I can't even remember the name of the album but I remember
it being really good, very moody, like the first New Order
album.
I'll have to dig it out, you say it's stood the test of
time?

Hmmm, if you're saying it's like New Order it might be "In
Debt" which is the first half of their career. Very good but
the genius, no the geeeeeeeenius, lies in the two albums
after that, "D.I. Go Pop" and "Technicolour" where they took
sampling to places it had never been before and never went
again.

I have Disco Inferno's "in debt", and it is a stunningly
beautiful album...every song...especially Arc in
Round....its a good mix of New Order and Cure...but much
more darker and fluid..

Yeah! must have been "In Debt" I had, Oh well looks like
I'll have to be one of those people who gets into the other
albums ten years too late, I do remember wanting to get "DI
go Pop" when it first came out but I think I was strapped
for cash at the time, I never even got a chance to hear it,
too busy buying KLF and Orb records probably (which I now
never listen too).
I had a theory about BP's lack of sales, the vocals, maybe
they weren't strong enough for real commercial success, they
fitted the tracks perfectly but he wasn't a very dynamic
singer, the lyrics were lovely though, maybe all some people
heard was some miserable depressed sounding guy, I did get
some complaints when playing it at work which really used to
piss me off.

Well, the new BP album has a female singer.... I didn't have
that much of a problem with his style of "singing", i
thought it fitted them quite well overall. But a lot of
people i think would say his voice dtracted from the music.

GIR > Arc in round is indeed a top, top song.

offline soundguy from London (United Kingdom) on 2004-06-03 18:58 [#01221728]

Well I'll dig my DI album out even though it's not any of
the electronic ones.
Hopefully I'll still like it, had a problem with the old
Slowdive stuff when I listened to that recently, think I
prefer the "Blue Skied n Clear" versions (hope that isn't
sacrilige).

A female singer will be a bit wierd for me,(though if she's
anything like the one on the "Nothing Feels" ep it will be
OK I guess), I do like his voice, I'm just used to it I
guess, I've listened to "Hex" at least once/twice a month on
and off since it was first released.

I've got a Notwist album, it's not on Morr though, it's on
City Slang, I was gonna list a track off that actually,
don't know why I didn't.

Yeah! love Broadcast, only have the first mini album and
first proper album though, yeah! there's some electronica
moments on them but they are a hard band to classify, they
always reminded me of retro stuff like The White Noise.

broadcast are dreamy

i saw them last fall. it was an awesome set. the encore was
'hammer without a master,' my favorite song by them. when
they went off, i was disappointed that i wasn't going to get
to hear it. i was pleasantly surprised though.

are their EP's any good? ive only got work and non work,
pendulum, haha sound, microtronics... i've heard some stuff
from noise made by people but don't have a copy.

"Work and Non Work" is among one of my favourite CDs, nearly
all of it recently made it onto an "all time classic" Mp3
type disc I did and I had a lot of stuff to choose from.
There's about 5 tacks from "Noise Made by People" that are
wonderfull and the rest are just OK, to these ears at least,
but it's still worth checking out cos those tracks really
are nice.
Some people actually rate their e.p.s higher than their
albums, they tend to do more instrumental type stuff, the
WARP purists tend to prefer that I guess.
I saw them once at a WARP gig and loved them, they are great
live but all my mates hated them cos they were only there
for Plone and Plaid.

Two Lone Sworsman? who?

No, actually of course I know who they are, I've never heard
any tracks by them that could be considered rock or pop but
they did do that really nice track with the Electronic
sample in it, but I've not checked em much recently, I do
remember they did a sort of clubby electro album which I
found mind numbingly boring, nowhere near as good as "Stay
Down".

and in contast to Bark Psychosis, Sabres of Paradise once
performed one of the worst gigs I've ever seen.

been doing some research on this, it seems that both the DI
albums were deleted on 30/12/02, dammit.
I might still be able to find them for sale used but the
word is out now so it might be pretty tough.
BTW the records I have by them are "Science" and "Closed
Windows, Open Doors"

"Hex" was deleted on 21/08/96, just a couple of years after
it was first released (14/02/94) which is criminal really
but at least my copy might be worth something (not that I'd
ever sell it of course) on e-bay one day.

Unfortunately the same can't be said for "Codename
