playing live

So i have finally assembled all the kit i need to play
live, tried and tested it. It all works swimmingly. All i
have to do is practice the live instrument part and im ready
to roll. Anyone else play electronic stuff live?

Do you plan on improvising the whole gig?

all you need is a long chain of effects and a delay unit
with plenty of feedback, and you've got yourself an
experimental/ambient live show.

When I play live, I use my laptop with fruity, and a korg
electribe a and r. Very rudimentary but I do lots of live
dsp, and I change patterns with fruity, so you can improvise
beats and still keep it synched. Thats why I love FL - you
can prepare a pattern while another is playing and then que
it up when its ready.

ive planned it so that i wont be just sat at a laptop
playing solitaire for the whole show. Live bass, and my mate
is playing live drums too. drum and bass if you will. I
would like to have some sort of visuals too. I guess i'd
need a projector for that though... sigh...

I think that's a good idea. I've only been to one laptop
gig before but it was lame. Maybe I just like a good show,
but this was just like listening to the slightly modified CD
really loud.

right now i'm planning my live festival gig...
electribe r, mpc 2000 + midi keyboard, kaoos pad,
stylophone, some efx and prepared samples on MDs
more info later

i am hoping to go live in future, but at the moment i need
to get a bit more equipment and material together, but
here's what I've got so far that I intend to use for live
stuff:

17" PowerBook
12.1" iBook
Oxygen8 MIDI Controller Keyboard
Ableton Live 3.0.2
Reason 2.5
Casio SK-1 (circuit bent)

My wish list is:

Novation ReMOTE 25 Audio Extreme MIDI Controller Keyboard
Roland MC-202
Nord Modular G2
A PC sub-notebook
Minimoog Voyager
A decent PA system!!!!

you dont need all that to play live!!

a lot of it is for studio right?

My live set up is powerbook, ableton, firewire 410, bass,
drums, headphones. the end.

yeah but i'd wanna bring some kind of actual instrument
performance into it.

it's all well and good triggering things from Ableton, but
i'd like to be able to show that i can do more than use a
mouse and press a few keys (which is unfortunately what the
general listening public usually thinks goes into making
electronic music)

whats the point of playing live if not for the free beer and
free chicks?

im just giving you a hard time dude.

:)

i use either an iBook or dell both (depending on what i am
doing) both running ableton. firewire 410, oxy 8 controller.
various effects pedals. sometimes have a guitarist/bassist
sit in with me.

playing live is great. its alot of fun and its cool to hear
your tunes on a good PA. its also cool because you get to
hear the music of others you enjoy that loud and the
enviornment is always pretty cool.

i want goddamn casio sk 1
i paid about 100 erous for goddamn oxxygen which comes
without any sound and that 20 dollars ebay casio thing
makes me mad!!!
don't mention c.bent!

mine cost me £140 altogether, got it from US eBay.

it's circuit bent, and it's got a MIDI Input on it. also the
built in speaker is still intact and working (as this is
usually the first thing to go in bending mods for SK's)

offline blobula from BElgraDe on 2004-06-02 17:58 [#01220232]

you mean that the first thing that i need to ask is about
the speaker?

with ableton live
fl studio 4
reason 2.5

audiomulch
novation KS5 rack
novation remote 25

all but over that im stuffed
