any other fans of this film from 1973?
i love how the islanders break into song at every opportunity for jovial paganism.
okay maybe it's all a bit silly but the end is awesome, and the film's message is interesting; in the scenes with the lord, the stubborn dogmatism of the christian police officer seems more ridiculous and arbitrary than the religious beliefs of the islanders. interesting stuff.

Scariest film ever. I keep hoping that a helicopter will come to rescue him. But no - he gets roasted by a bunch of bible bashing nutters.

boards of canada should do an alternative soundtrack for it. the moods fit exactly: all rural and scottish and beautiful, but with undercurrents of menace and sinister things afoot.

ehm.. but this isn't like that "gingerbread man" film, where I sit and expect a gingerbread man, and there is no gingerbread man, 'cause he's only a story, right?

***SPOILERS***
It's a great film. Brilliant folk soundtrack too.
Fun facts:
A script for the sequel does exist, and the copper is still alive, albeit horribly burned.
They are/were planning a remake in America, with the pagan community being out in the deep south. However, this wouldn't be as good, as the yanks never were pagans- it was catholics who emmigrated there... so there would be no indiginous pagan belief.
There was a real wicker man near where I used to work in Somerset. Funny little villages around there...
