I'm just about finished editing a 30 minute short film.
All of the music is by me except for the outro which is
"lichen" by aphex twin. This is my first time ever doing
something like this and I was just wondering if anyone knew
what I should do. Should I write to warp or to richard or
what. Normally I wouldn't care but this might be aired and
I dont want to be sued. Any suggestions?

Email Warp and ask nicely, they will say no and you will
feel bitter.

email richard and he'll come to your house and fart in your
mouth. i suggest making a similiar sounding song with only a
few note changes.

send email to warp , i think you will have to pay a tantiem
for the sounds.
i know that one minute of any madonna song used in
commercial or so costs 6.000$, straight to her pocket -
\artists have more money from copyrights than from CD's.

as long as you don't make any money from the video, and you
credit the latter part to him then you should be fine.

its only when you're making money from it, or falsely
claiming that it's your original work that they'll get the
lawyers involved

dunno, maybe several issues of copyrights are different in
different parts of the world. anyway, using someones
material for your own purpose its a law breaking, but i
think that if you want to put in the air some parts of
copyrighted work ( such as afx track ) it needs a legal
agreement or something. its not yours, you know.

i was told that i need permission even if i'm not making a
profit.

well i was told that you can legally sample up to four notes
of a track for free, and that drum samples are free to
sample (both of these only apply if you're using them for
non-profit)

well I use the whole song. I'm debating just not telling
anybody, and have the credit flash for one frame at the end,
because I'm sure absolutely nobody watches the channel it
would be aired on accept maybe grandparents.

ok I showed the film to a big test audience and they all
really liked it. I emailed warps licensing area about a
week ago and haven't gotten a reply, is this to be expected?
