I love how his work seems kind of breezy and light,
dreamlike almost, but it's almost always kind of
melancholic.

I like him! You're right his work is melancholic, there is
always a kind of intense lonliness that is portrayed. I've
heard his style described as 'art noir' which I think is
quite a good name.
