well in case you missed it, i was a bit triggerhappy last night and before i knew it i clicked myself a 170 euros poorer after having won an auction on ebay.
the object is a powershot s20 digicam. there was no info regarding the state of it or how old it is.
Apparently, a known bug in this camera is an error message that appears on the screen after a few years of use, be it canon's intention or not, it happens. repair costs are ridiculously high. This error renders the cam useless.
Suppose i get the camera in working condition, and it gives up on me on lets say a couple of weeks use?
I suppose nobody can be held responsible?
(and for the love of bog, none of those witty replies as 'correct' or 'you'd be proper fucked then' or 'that's the risk you chose to take' or 'i wouldnt worry about it so much' etc)
shit i'm getting paranoid. i should be receiving the cam tuesday. waiting for an email....... :(

i think, in this case, noone can indeed be held responsible.. ebay can be pretty shady at times.

You should have done your research BEFORE buying.. if you're going to spend any money at all on a bit of technology you have to know as much about it as possible before you buy it.

even if i did know this, it wouldnt really matter.
anything you buy could get busted sooner or later. the error may never appear, or it may have already.
this would even be the case if i bought it in a store. (warranty is always expired when something happens)
are you saying i should never buy anything?

No not at all, i'm just saying things like this are always more risky on ebay because in a shop at least most of the time they're brand new and so there would be less of a risk of them breaking down quickly. You might get this camera and it might be broken already, to the point where it wont even switch on..
Also when you buy brand new from a shop you usually get upto one year warranty. With ebay you dont get a warranty.
Thats why when either myself or oscillik buy things off ebay we do our research before hand, and we try to e-mail the people before buying to get at least some info on the state of the product before we buy.. we like to know what we're entering into.
But hold tight for now, just wait and see, you might be pleasantly supprised :)

Ah you're welcome..i know how that feels, i'm terrible for wanting to buy things off ebay, sometimes i decide right away i want something just by the picture, without looking at the details haha, but then oscillik reads the detials and advises me on what to do since it's his money i spend lol
Just wait and see, it might be perfectly fine :) and if not, you can always sell it haha

I bought tickets from ebay for Ricky Gervais. the seller said they were "centre stage dream tickets". They were second row from the back and two seats in from the left hand side. I hope the guy burns in hell, coz i payed a pretty penny for those...the f'ucker.
