Many people have asked why a computer crashes. It is usually very technical but maybe this will help. Dr. Seuss Explains Why Computers Sometimes Crash If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port, and the bus is interrupted at a very last resort, and the access of the memory makes your floppy disk abort, then the socket packet pocket has an error to report. If your cursor finds a menu item followed by a dash, and the double-clicking icon puts your window in the trash, and your data is corrupted cause the index doesn't hash, then your situation's hopeless and your system's gonna crash! If the label on the cable on the table at your house, says the network is connected to the button on your mouse, but your packets want to tunnel to another protocol, that's repeatedly rejected by the printer down the hall. If your screen is all distorted by the side effects of gauss, so your icons in the window are as wavy as a souse; then you may as well reboot and go out with a bang, 'cuz sure as I'm a poet, the sucker's gonna hang! When the copy of your floppy's getting sloppy in thedisk, and the macro code instructions cause unnecessary risk, then you'll have to flash the memory and want to RAM your ROM then turn off the computer and be sure to tell your Mom! |

They crash simply to "prevent" your hardware from permanent damaging. Man really when you have a BSOD and you reboot, the PC often saved itself it's life as if it had continued to be unstable it would had done permanent damage to the hardware (HD, mobo, memory, etc...). That's why it freezes when you overclock too much. Better that it crashes, then to burn your video card ;-D |

most of the time it crashes simply because it didn't get the result is was expecting. the computer doesn't know what to do with this unexpected result, so the program must end (crash). this generally happens either when you have hardware problems, or because the programmer didn't account for a certain set of circumstances (such as the user opening the wrong kind of file, or entering a bigger number than expected). it's not that your computer is saving it's self from permenant damage (it's generally not that smart), it's just that it has no way to continue your program for one reason or another. you could think of it as losing your map. you aren't in any immediate danger, but you won't be able to find where you're going any more, so you have to abort your trip. there is the occasional case of a computer shutting down due to temperatures getting too hot, but this is a fairly new feature that most computers aren't equiped with yet. ramble ramble ramble.. |
