Probably, yes, as a PR exercise. They'd be put in a cushy
and probably extremely safe job within the forces, away from
the frontline and sit out the war that way.

to quote george bush:

"no other army in the history of the world hasn't fought so
persistent and so often, for the freedom of others"

so come on people, don't let it stop now!!

A possible draft isn't gonna send me packing my bags and

i'm just saying that being born into a democracy shouldn't
automatically mean you have to join the army, but
should mean you can have an informed choice whether to or
not.

My father was made to take part in the french-algerian war
and because he refused to bear arms, was sent to jail. He
didn't regret it and said that the Revolution didn't happen
so he could be made kill people for politicians.

So how about Koreas freedom? Say the West decided to invade
and "liberate" that poor country. Would you sign up? Would
you kill mis-educated locals?

War is a different game. I would make robots to combat
other robots, but I would never kill a living beign unless
in self-defense.

I even criticize parents for wanting to poison ants that
invade our house. I feed them so they don't have to look
for food inside the house.

i think theres nothing wrong with a draft.. ok id shit
myself and wouldnt want to do it but if my country was being
invaded id have no choice but to fight and a draft would
seem rational. but why the fuck would i want to go fight in
a war on terrorism , terrosists are fuking american,
brittish, afganastani its not a fucking country of the
border of peru called terrorville. fuck america supported
the ira for years whilst they bombed the uk and now suddenly
terrosism is a major threat that they wont stand for? a
draft seems fuking pointless, just more fodder for the
troops to miss fire on

Damn, this is scary stuff. Here's the actual bills,
S 89 (sponsored by Sen. Ernest Hollings [SC]) and
HR 163 (sponsered by Rep. Charles Rangel [NY] and
co-sponsored by 14(!) other representatives).

Two other big changes: currently Selective Service applies
to all males ages 18-25. These new bills say 18-26, male
AND female.

"To provide for the common defense by requiring that all
young persons in the United States, including women, perform
a period of military service or a period of civilian service
in furtherance of the national defense and homeland
security, and for other purposes. "

Sneaky bastards... and I'm going to be 26 by next June.

there is no fucking draft. it`s an election ploy to get bush
voted out. good he`s the devil. but i`m not against the
senseless death of ignorant arogant americans that think
their country is the only one in the world because it`s the
most powerful [as it`s shafted all the small countries
resources].

If anyone one of you dopey twats still thinks it`s all about
"freedom" i think you should all sign up right now. For the
sake of the gene pool. And how anyone could think that
another zillion americans in Iraq will cause insta-peace is
beyond comprehension.

er wait, I'm in the clear...

Reading the bill a little closer, it appears "between 18 and
26" = [18-26). That is to say, at least 18 and not yet 26.

My bad.

I dont like this idea. I mean if you are all for it then
good for you. I think i should have the right to choose if i

Why would people even get drafted? I dont really like this

have you not read anything thats been said? Just because the
government decides something, doesnt means its the word of
god. thats why its a democracy, so people can change the
government, when they dont agree. I dont agree with this
draft. it affects my life in a very serious way. thats why
there is appeal courts, because people dont always make the
right decisions. and if my country refuses to listen to my
voice, then why shouldnt I be allowed to leave, and no
longer be a part of the country? I didnt choose to be born
an american. I shouldnt be forced into anything.

you are so close minded, it hurts.

do you not hear me? Jesus. You can't be that thick...

I DONT AGREE WITH THE REASONS FOR WAR. I dont believe a war
in iraq is to protect my country. and frankly, when we go
around waging wars that arnt justified, then I dont blame
other countries for hating us. Blowing them up wont fix it.

Try and wrap your head around the concept of democracy, and
the government being by the people and for the people, and
making changes. Its the basic principle on which the US is
based, yet you dont even get it. We are not the tools of the
government. The government is the tool of the people.

I am not a traitor, I am not a coward. I dont beleive in the
cause for war, and Im not ready to lay my life down for
something I do not believe in. I have every right to object,
and try to change things.

Wake the fuck up.

Zeus,

It's ok. Try not to get all worked up. In the end, we're
all on the same side. It's just hard to argue over the
internet in text, iz all. :'(

But good points from both sides. I enjoy arguments like

more backing behind my original opinion :( (sorry, but i'm

wasnt this draft thing some dumb attempt by a congress man
to make the sons of politicians go into the army instead of
poor black americans. His claim was that they are the ones
who fight and die in wars? something liek that, the
congressmen was from ny. i read this on another msg board.

what confuses me is , now that they let everyone in the
army, men , women, supposedly gays, will they draft
everyone? shit who cares if i go, i dont want my sister
going to war. but thats what gets the topic so cloudy, they
won't draft women and then it becomes a discriminations
issue etc..
