It's all about Yojimbo. And even more often, it's all about Toshiro Mifune.

if you liked the seven samurai, you'd probably enjoy director akira kurosawa's other films. basically, they're all classics. my favorite samurai films (in no particular order): Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, Sanjuro, Throne Of Blood, Ran, Rashomon. he also directed High and Low, Ikiru, and Red Beard, which are all great as well.

well, kurosawa is widely regarded as one of the more influential directors ever. it's hard to compare him with other directors, but a lot of american directors have been influenced by him and copied his work. my 3 favorite directors ever are kurosawa, federico fellini, and alfred hitchcock

yeah, i think Takeshi Miike is a bit hit and miss tho, Audition is awesome but i'd like him to spend a bit more time on his films. He probably makes 10 films in the time it takes Wong Kar Wai to make one.

yeah the mini-series, bought it for my mom's b'day, still waiting for it to come through the post. I also ordered the sequel by Clavell, 'Tai Pan' which i've heard is even better than Shogun. Can't wait to see Shogun though, haven't seen it before, my mother is always going on about how good it is and that she actually learnt some japanese by watching it.
