Most prolific electronic artists?

offline GIR from Easton on 2004-05-21 13:04 [#01200578]

anyone know who has put out the most worthless junk
throughout the years?

Brian Eno, considering all his production work
Atom Heart
Pete Namlook
Vsnares is on his way, considering his 2 or 3 albums a year
deal.

"prolific" doesn't necessarily mean "producing worthless
junk"....

well, anyway, you surely can name Merzbow, i like him but a
lot of people will say he's worthless junk (which i
certainly understand) and he must be the most prolific. 300+
releases already.

Not at all even. It's actually a good thing to be prolific.
When I think of prolific electronic artists I think Aphex
Twin, Autechre and Boards of Canada.

i meant it as a joke

Brian Eno and Bowie are probably my two favorite artists of
all time.

Namlook is quite a bit of hit and miss to me though...Shades
of Orion 2 is one of the best ambient records ive ever
heard though.

Brain Eno's production for the talking heads was naff. Just
rubbish, mainly that remain in light album. Awful, pompus,
pathetically bad stuff. The only way to hear talking heads
is live.

Although he was good with roxy music, i.e. ladytron.

most worthless junk though.

Dicography here. Dunno how complete it is though, most
muslimgauze releases are limited to somewhere between 500
and 2000 copies.

well that's not even 200 and a lot of those are singles and
EPs.
Check out http://music.hyperreal.org/artists/atom_heart/ for
Uwe Schmidt (Atom Heart, Señor Coconut, Lassique
Bendthaus)'s discography. I think you'll find it's more if
you count albums and singles.

Have you ever compared Merzbow's output to that of
Autechre?

No comparison matey. And anyway, Merzbow's been going for
way longer than Autechre. When was their first release? 1991
or something. Merzbow released stuff in the 70's!

ill try to be positive for a change. bear with me because
its pretty difficult. if you mean prolific, its gotta be
kraftwerk.

Edward Ka Spel sure has been part of a lot of musical
endeavors. Frank Zappa did a lot of stuff, too. And most of
it isn't boring.

I'm not a fan of Merzbow's, don't own a single track of his,
I just know that he's released a shitload of records and CDs
(one release being a box of 50 (FIFTY!) CD albums).

Sorry, Kraftwerk aren't near either. Miniscule discography
compared to Merzbow or Atom Heart.

No they don't. They don't even have 100 including singles.
Check out some of the Kraftwerk websites
first...Here's a good one, in German

including different versions, different editions etc they
easily do. i wasn't exageratting i was seeing it from a
collectors point of view. they are one of the most popular
collectable groups period.

That's because they were a great "band". Every successful
band usually has tons of different versions of releases
because they release different versions in different
countries.

Having lots of versions of the same album does not make you
prolific.
Making a lot of music and releasing a lot of it IS.
