I just got my copy of this in the mail today, and I have to
say that I really like it. I think it's a good thing that
Warp aren't shy about releasing stuff which doesn't
precisely fit with their perceived "style".

I think they're trying too hard to do that though.

I disagree. It's possible that they are trying to diversify
deliberately, but I'd imagine that they just found something
they liked the sound of and gave it a go. Whatever the
motivation, if it's good I'm happy.

It seems to me that Warp are trying to mature their sound
output in line with it's original listenership which isn't
necessarily a bad thing. The fact that they have been
willing to lose a certain amount of 'street credibility' to
do this is also admirable.

But lets face it, even now, there wouldn't be a music maker
on this board, who if offered, wouldn't jump at the chance
of having a Warp release. You're never going to like
everything an artist(s) releases never mind a label.

Personally from the samples I have heard I have not been too
taken with this new band, just taste though init :P

If anything it shows that Warp are still willing to sign
what they as people like, rather than what is expected of
them...in the long run this is almost certainly going to be
better for the label in the long run, because releasing what
is expected instead of what is liked, leads to a major loss
in quality.

So true, ecnadniarb. A lot of odd "sour grapes" out
there...
