Ya

Just bought this a few days ago, and I'm addicted. The
entire album plays through my mind when I try to go to sleep
at night.. It is just such a lovely album!

the word means "to milk," like what yo do to cows to get
milk from them... at least in norwegian.

then, this album, if it had been made by a slovenian, would
have been called molzenje.

Yes, Kim Hiorthøy is very nice. I like how his music sounds
organic and a little lo-fi. Very different from other
electronic artists I've heard. And ofcourse it fits
perfectly with his artwork... messy but beautiful. It has
that melancholic happy childhood memories-feeling to it.
It's great.

I only have Hei and Melke on CD-R :-o
Someone gave them to me. But I'd really like to find the
original albums sometime though. But not alot of dutch
stores have it in stock :-/

How "big" is he in Norway? His music isn't very mainstream I
guess, but I always thought that as a graphical-artist he
was quite wellknown over there?

No, he isn't all that big.. I hadn't heard much of him
before Mortsto mentioned him, but I'm glad he did! It's just
all good music.

If you like Kim Hiortøy, you could try Bjørn Torske as
well.. it's not QUITE the same sound.. Torske is more
plastic and less "drummy," but he makes minimalistic
plastic-music, and quite a lot of it is pretty good!

Never heard of Bjørn Torske before. I'll remember that name
and see what I can find, thanks. From your description I
think that I might like his music quite a bit :-)

I think his music may be at Tellé records somewhere...
you'll have to have a look around...

Well, Bjørn Torske is making house-music, so it's not
veeery like KimH, IMO. But good music, anyway.

Tolstoyed: The reason why KH is calling the second album
Melke, is because a lot of songs there are eralier b-sides,
remixes compilation-tracks and so on. In Norway it is called
Melke, when you use things like this, and kinda squeeze it
for what it's worth. Like 26 mixes for cash.
Hard to explain, but you get the idea?

The title is of course used a bit ironic, since obviously
don't make much money on his music.

Bjørn Torske makes house? I would definately not call
Trøbbel and Hard Trafikk house!!!

Trøbbel, that's the album I'm talking about..

I don't know about Nedi Myra, though...

yes it makes perfect sense...we use same expression for that
in our language :)
so, um, maybe afx was taking kim's example...

I would def call it house. A bit more edgey than many other
artists. And if you check out the compilations he is
appearing on, it's mostly house-comp. Put on nedi Myra, and
listen to the opening track called Expresso. Plain house.
The last album is more experimental, though...

well.. Trøbbel is more minimal, I think... either that, or
my conception of house is COMPLETELY different from yours...

Trøbbel is more minimal and experimental and less house'y.
Knekkebrød is a good example. Nice to hear how it develops.
And Hard Trafikk is a helluva floor-filler.

Hard trafikk is more towards it, yes, but as you say,
Knekkebrød and stuff like that.. I'd call it Kim Hiortøy
high on plastic...
