The egg is a pretty shameful precursor to eggshell, as well.

1) It's extremely simplistic--just a few basic elements,
neither interestingly or greatly differentiated, repeated
mindlessly over and over
2) I don't like the sound of those annoying components
anyway; both their pitches and timbres are grating and
boring.

listen to that and further, which is similar in some ways,
but an infinitely superior work.

by the way, saying you disagree and putting a smiley is as
retarded as saying 'no offense, but..'

let me just clarify something: it's really the beginning of
the track which kills me. It does get a little better, but
hearing that really annoying crap repeat itself until 1:24
really is beyond my patience.

yeah, that's a great track, I bring it up all the time and
no one says anything; I guess I could be cliche and call it
underrated.

I fucking keep chaing the -a to -um in incunabula since that
makes it an english word.. damnit

offline brokephones from Londontario on 2004-05-18 22:02 [#01194865]

In`cu*nab"u*lum\, n.; pl. Incunabula. [L. incunabula cradle,
birthplace, origin. See 1st In-, and Cunabula.] A work of
art or of human industry, of an early epoch; especially, a
book printed before a. d. 1500.

Maybe changing the um into an a personifies the word
incunabulum. Like some sort of early/ancient being.

Bow down, for I am incunabulum, god of old stuff!

Well it says pl, which means pluraly form is Incunabula, and
I consider the album to be one creative unit, so plural
doesn't really make much sense. But whatever, they must
have had their reasons. Maybe just because it sounds cooler
as -a

by the way, I know that's the web1913 dictionary definition,
did you use dict.org to retrieve that definion?

I find lowride to be one of the more agreeable tracks on
Incunabula, which I rarely listen to in its entirety
anyways.

I don't know what the big deal is with 444.

The ones I like somewhat also are kalpol introl, basscadet,
and maetl. I guess 444 to a lesser extent.

offline sneakattack on 2004-05-18 22:19 [#01194872]
Points: 6049 Status: Lurker | Followup to Doomed Puppy: #01194868

that's why I said I consider it a unit, but they must have
their reasons. It doesn't make sense to call each track
that, because to fully satisfy the definition it must also
be a 'first'; and each track can be the first, and neither
are they (they had releases before that..). This is their
first full length release, so referring to album is the only
simple logical explanation.

it is most likely due to some fucked up word play which is
much more subtle.. lots of their names are like that, for
instance chiastic isn't a word but chiasmic is; sometimes I
wonder if that's just because chiastic sounds cooler than
chiasmic, and they, being architects of sound, feel the
right to change sounds of words.

444 has a beautiful, inexorable flow, unfolding smoothly and
deliberately like some spring flower, but maybe one made of
silicon and electrons. lowride is a mess structurally (in
addition to the points I gave above). doesn't it jar your
ears when that highest pitch melody first comes in, and then
repeats 4 times?

offline mappatazee from ¨y¨z¨| (Burkina Faso) on 2004-05-18 22:27 [#01194878]

Structurally simplistic if that's what you mean. Is it too
straightforward? I like the melody anyways.

No, I just mean it doesn't have any logical pattern. 444 has
a very simple, but clear structure.

hmm, I hate the melody. It sucks I can't say anything
coherent on this topic, I guess it's time to shut up (who
thinks that time was before my first post? all hands
raise..)

Yes, but impossible. Music is a subjective thing.
You would get along quite well with my friend. You have that
same sort of clinical analysis approach to music.

i like music if it moves me, i dont dismantle it and look at
the talent put into it, because that ruins some really good
stuff on incunabula. its a simple album thats simply amazing

About 2 months ago I was at the farmers market in Halifax.
It was incredibly busy. Three girls began to play cellos,
some very soothing emoitional music. I wouldnt have bought
their music or even downloaded it, but for that moment they
totally had me. I was watching some girl who was trying to
sell cakes. She just sort of stared forward blankly as
people walked by and snubbed her cakes. I felt the music
controlling my thoughts and acting as a mental filter. It
was incredible and I almost cried. And not for one second
was I thinking about the technicality of it.

I just never want to be in a position where I can't explain
why I like something. There are many reasons for this, and
they aren't just stupid exterior stuff ("I want to prove
that my opinions are the BEST"). For instance, I don't ever
want to be cheated, or to cheat others, and by analyzing my
tastes carefully I can be a fairer or judge.. anyway I'm
boring so I'm shutting up

if I have a reaction like that I get angry with myself (not

my irrational personal taste =) ).

I also remember when my friend and I spent a whole day in a
park on mushrooms. A mother was trying to control her son by
yelling "slowdown!" rythmically every 2 seconds. Naturally,
my friend and I started beatboxing to her as she kept
repeating "slowdown"

Boom-bap-slowdown-bap-boom
Boom-bap-slowdown-bap-ba-ba
Boom-chika-slowdown-chika-chika bap bap

Just got done listening to Lowride and now moving onto the
cream of the crop, which is '444.' As for Lowride, it's my
second favorite track on the album. WindWind, Lowride, and
444 are a perfect way to finish a near perfect album. I
love the crazy 909 action in Lowride.
