M on 2001-05-03 07:06 [#00005479]

I think Download's "the eyes of stanley pain" is an
extremely underhyped/rated album. On headphones it is
extremely wicked. Every song is from the mind of a different
mentally ill person. In one song a person drags their hand
through a pile of gold coins right inside your head! The
panning is so perfect, it sounds like the coins are right in
your head. Another song uses some waterfalls to a similar
effect. The "lyrics" are subconscious anger perfectly
converted into sound and make the scariest and most
disturbing nine inch nails/ maralyn manson seem happy. This
guy's voice commands your attention. It's like your strapped
in a chair and he's some serial killer describing what he's
going to do to you. The sound is as full as windowlicker,
and the beats are warlike and purposely fucked up.

Netlon Sentinel from beyond on 2001-05-03 12:52 [#00005530]

excuse me, M? thanks for the download tip! i listened to
some clips at cdnow, and i think it's great!! what are
essential albums, do you reckon?

M on 2001-05-03 17:45 [#00005554]

You mean essential by Download? Probably just "The eyes of
stanley pain". That's definately the best. But I still like
"furnace" (similar to download, but sort of dated) and "iii"
(more lay back, hardly psychotic). But 2 other great albums
by similar bands that are better. (Meaning similar, I mean
that it is likely that you might hear a reporter on the news
after a school shooting saying, "And the type of music that
Dave, the shooter in this rampage, listened to was Download,
etc.") These are "Drill" by noise unit. And "Flavour of the
Weak" by Front Line Assembly.
If you meant essential albums in addition to download,
here's my favorites.
autechre- lp5, ep7, tri rep
aphex twin- come 2 daddy, windowlicker, r.d.j. album
www.mp3.com/imaginary- "music for sleeping hippos"
www.mp3.com/chulk- "Pre"
www.mp3.com/jbohn- "I sing the body electric"
and if you feel really evil- "tauromachine" by merzbow

Netlon Sentinel from beyond on 2001-05-04 14:34 [#00005646]

M, thank you. i meant essential by download, and i'm
definately going to check them out!

[REFLEX] from Western Canada on 2001-05-04 15:16 [#00005651]

netlon sentinal: yeah.. I have many Download Cds... maybe
you would like to know which are the best albums/songs? Ive
liked them for a while.. let me know.

Netlon Sentinel from beyond on 2001-05-05 13:42 [#00005710]

reflex: well M recommended stanley pain. i like the idea of
songs from the viewpoint of mentally ill people, so i guess
i'll get the album. but is their latest stuff any good?

Netlon Sentinal: if you would have most of their stuff like
me and others, you would recognize that they progress from a
industrial band to an electronic band.... they used to be
called SKINNY PUPPY and originated from my City I live in
now! Which is cool.. cause Its canadian! Hehe. So yeah...
the newer it is, the more electronic it it. I have the
newest one. Its good! They have a lot of WEIRD stuff!

SWAI from Denmark on 2001-05-06 13:39 [#00005771]

If you want something sicker than marilyn manson, Skinny
puppy are for you.

they are so fucked up!
they scare me

M on 2001-05-06 21:59 [#00005786]

What's a good S.P. album, preferably a complex one without
simple beats? Maybe with some scary lyrics and stuff.
They're an old band so is their stuff pretty much simple
electronic stuff- easy to dance to beats and stuff?- that
type of stuff isn't for me.

Nothing really. I listen a lot to my own tracks. I reckon
thats the best way of getting a good, original sound. I got
into making music when i heard some old fasttracker tracks
by bogdan raczynski.

yeh.
