i've had a copy of aileron for a while and love it, i finally managed tro track down a copy in the UK and bought it immeadiately, it comes in a kind of book with plenty of nice pictures etc, there's also a couple of films on the cd.
the foreword gives a little more info: some times you have to travel around the world to find what was in your own back yard (and sometimes you don't). stumbling across the recordings of rotor+ was such a journey, and a series of beautiful coincidences.
i had been attending a conference in osaka, japan regarding the development of super-sensitive three-dimensional microphone configurations and their use in mapping an acoustical representation of space (see: 'journal of the standing wave' vol. 193 p70). during the course of the conference much talk was centered on the identification of repeating acoustical patterns that could be used as aspects of a complete algorithm for the way in which we hear space.(KID: did you get all that ladies and gents?? wtf is he talking about) while i was talking with a group of the other conference attendees i was asked to accompany them for dinner and a more informal discussion on patterned acoustical space. (KID: this guy knows how to have a good time!!)
while the dialogue played around the room i noticed that the music (up until then muzak of the beatles music done on xylophones) changed to something that i later found out was the music of rotor+, ...and suprisingly this music came from my own land of birth, new zealand.
excited i copied down a postal address from the well-worn MD. a letter was written and posted with much anticipation. arriving back in new zealand my mailbox was empty. i waited and waited.
another 2 years went by before the music you are about to hear arrived in my hands. (i had long before given up recieving a reply to the numerous letters i had written). a single DAT tape, a written manuscript and a selection of photos and films.
CONT....

the RTCNZ has great pleasure in sharing these with you. sound that frames space and the landscapes that inspired them. i would also like to thank personally miss fiona jack for her help editing and compiling this booklet, and kog transmissions, our parent company for help in the production of this CD.
charles douglas. director of the radiophonics trading company of new zealand.
anyways rotor+ has also released a couple of 12"s in new zealand aswell, and he's also done some live gigs, i think infact he did one in the UK.

yeah, i just made a mistake in thread title.
funny, coz i have some info's added to cd, and it contains "fuul track titles" ( the Cd has 3 long tracks ) which goes like this :
1. beginning - something to do while driving. a. 17 dec 1921 b. Mt Cargill ...% c. piano .1 (Awakino) d. from a > e e. piano .2 (making the most of minimal hearing) f. BOC (everything you do is.....) g. white/blue-black line/small dots
2. middle - thinking of changing the rectangle to a less regular shape.
a. finally found the courage, finally found the love (2) b. 174' 45.7' E 36' 51.5' S c. box -|-s-| SH1 3am rm 4 (sha la la la la)
3. end - mapping the world a. aileron (N2F1JF) b. background environmental sounds c. reel to reel d. religious society of friends
weeird, and cool at the same time
