The aborted Thad tracks...

Just some shitty snippets of aborted ideas for my track for
Thad. Really rough and ready.

Feel free not to listen :P

1

2

3

4

5

They are all a little bit different from each other in style
I think.

Sound nice to me. some comments:

1) I think it needs another layer, maybe something rather
constant and unobtrusive to glue the other stuff going on
together. The melody and beat line seem so separate that
the thing sounds slightly empty.

2) Very nice to hear that little aural tickle underneath
when the beat drops out. I like this one. flows very
smoothly

3) The melody line's sound could use some
refinement/processing. This one also could have a little
more going on, sounds a little stagnant at times

4) Too short to tell. sounds decent but need to know how it
unfolds

5) maybe add some low pitched line meandering in the
background?

Your comments that you're sometimes playing with emulating
autechre's sound are really clear here; a lot of these have
the clear echoes of specific autechre tracks (heard rae and
acroyear really distinctly). You really make nice music
ecna, why don't you spend more time on it? Sweat on it some
and figure out exactly what your sound is. Also do you ever
experiment with more shifting key usage/modulation? These
all sound nice, keep up the good work.

wow...thanks...I was expecting someone to pick out maybe on
or two tracks, I wasn't expecting this :D

I am too lazy to make music. I get really frustrated things
not coming out the way I intend them to. I have some other
tracks which I started work on...I sort of naturally drift
towards the sound/feeling that was in 1 and 2 of these ones.
To be honest I haven't really used effects all that much at
all and I still don't know about melodies and what ever. I
just make what I feel. I suppose if I was to continue
making music I would have to look into those areas.

Thanks again, it is really appreciated.

It was my pleasure, I really like your shit. My comments
weren't so good since I'm tired, I kept saying 'nice' and
basically said add shit in each track, without specifics.

I don't mean to give some gay pep talk, but unfortunately
all humans fail a lot. Professional photographs use less
than .1% or something absurd like that. No computer
programmer writes bug free code (many get close..). Draft
7.30 had how many revisions? And how many flaws does it
_still_ have?

Anyway, you know all this. In my own case _nothing_
parallels the satisfaction of working at something and it
eventually coming around. Basically all good thing require
lots of work from people of great ability, not just one or
the other.

[/unnecessary gayness]

about the frustration, maybe try different approaches to
conceptualization. Try maybe a quick but complete pass
through, on paper, in head, on computer, on keyboard,
whatever, before you get knee deep in details.

holy shit, I wish I wasn't so worthless when I'm out of it.

"professional photographers", etc etc

I've tried loadsof ways of working, none of them work. That
is why I have given up on it all for a while. I'll probably
start again in a couple of weeks refreshed and feeling happy
again.

anyone interested or working in MaxMSP this is the latest thing I made
with one of my creations.

Thanks again sneek :D

ecnadniarb, you're my coolest online gayfriend ever ;D!!

in the context of commenting your tracks, i think
sneakattack covered it all.
about your workingmethods: listening to your snippets i've
got the feeling that i)the shortest one was the most
spontaneous one (as if you were doodling, which is good)
ii)you have too many good ideas to make up your mind.
if that is the case: have you tried recording doodle
sessions of an hour? afterwards you can collect certain
ideas in one track and use the others somewhere else.
something like that.
