good bjork album to start out with

beef fog on 2002-01-05 02:04 [#00066292]

i'm considering buying some bjork. that song amphibian on
the being john malkovitch sound track is quite a lovely
song, but i've never been all too familiar with her work in
general...whats a good album:?:?:...:?

they are all wonderful. i'm a big bjork fan, so let me
advise you. if you want music like in "amphibian", buy her
latest - vespertine. if you want something with more beats,
but mid-90s sounding beats at that, buy post or homogenic
(the latter one is much, much more electronic, the former
more lyricly oriented). and the best album to showcase her
singing and lyrics is her very first one, titled simply
debut. my personal favorites are debut and vespertine. i
hope this helps.

I'd say that Vespertine showcases her singing the best by
far. Her singing voice is greater wth each album. As for
where to start... that all depends. Pick oneat random.
Everything she's ever graced is absolutely beautiful.

yeah it really depends on what you want... I have Homogenic,
Selmasongs, and Vespertine, and personally I like Vespertine
the best... but yeah, if you're looking for more technoish
music, get Homogenic, and Selmasongs is more classical with
a little techno... Vespertine is just amazing...

thankyou for your input everyone. I think i'll start out
with vespertine...

trancendental beauty. psychedelically speaking, warm, red,
cozy choice. prepare for a return to the womb. it's quite
'pleasant' to say the leat :)

I´d go for Post or Homogenic.
I think Debut is a bit scetchy and Vespertine lacks when it
comes to the melodies (nice production tho). Selmasongs is
real nice too..

I like vespertine for it's overall epic drive of emotion.
It's the most intimate and moving of her albums. And I love
all the music Bjork chooses to accompany her voice, but the
voice is key for me, and the melodies of her singing on
Vespertine are far more fantastic (for me) than anythin else
she's done, from the subtleties to the in your face.

Not that Homogenic and isn't epic. It's equal in greatness.
Before buying Selmasongs see Dancer In the Dark. The EP
only hints at the power that the film wields.

yeah I've never seen dancer in the dark... but I still like
the album...
