since my last extremely interesting post in this thread I
finished Roger Zelazny's Lord of Light, which unfortunately
turd into pure pain. The plot became a self-indulgent
childish mess. The only thing lending any slight decency
was Zelazny's writing skill and wit, which unfortunately
kept turning to rhetoric.

Highly recommend to avoid.

this really bugs me because it's supposed to be amazing, and
I enjoyed some of his short stories greatly. this furthers
my ever strengthening hypothesis that EVERY OPINION ON THE
INTERNET IS FUCKING STUPID AND UNSUBSTANTIATED, a mantra
which my posts somehow evade.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time

Mark Haddon

I rarely read, but this quite interesting. It's sort of a
mystery novel. The narrator is an autistic 15-year old who
was trying to find out who killed a poodle. Also, the
chapters are ordered by prime numbers.

let's see...

Obligatorily A. Miller's "The Crucible" plus free-willingly
a couple of books (which is usual):

giorgio agamben - la comunita che viene
& T.Sebeok - Biosemiotics

Btw, just finished Writing and Difference (whoever was
planning on tackling it next), and it's actually a
collection of essays, which makes it sort of interesting but
not systematically enticing. Derrida's fun though, if not as
interesting as, say, Deleuze.

sweet, I was certain marlowe had hijacked my boat.

some people have expressed difficulty finding all threads
created by a specific member. The search didn't work for me
so I found out that if you append "&start=xyz" (where xyz is
some integer) to the created-by sorted view, you can do the
same thing (well I had to binary search to find myself).
For example, here's where I start.

I'm now reading a recent translation of 104 stories
from Pu Songling's Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio; I had read some of them
before and was looking forward to this new selection (the
complete set is ~559 stories).

I'm really enjoying it. The author recorded all his dreams
and was very well read; as such he had a huge breadth of
creative sources for the material..

humour and bizarre characters and events. Recommended.
