Prob agree with you. SAW 85-92 was the first stuff I heard,
back in '93 and it was mindblowing then & still is.

SAW 2 is just... words can't do it justice. It says so much
with so little.

We can always hope for a SAW 3, but Richard himself said he
doesn't like ambient music anymore. :(

But we all know that man is full of shit, you never know.

Caserol Joe the Chubby from mpls on 2002-01-05 00:57 [#00066284]

Both are wonderous, but esp. sawii. Though, when heard saw1
for the first time I decided that my defintion of ambient
music must be wrong. Is it really ambient? If it is, wt
the hell is ambient music? When I think ambient, I think
sawii, or Brian Eno. WTF?!?!

beef fog on 2002-01-05 02:00 [#00066290]

i think ambient music is just atmospheric music without a
definite structure...maybe i eat dog food though...

ambient music...i guess you could describe it as
subtle..usually pretty simple..i've always thought that it
was supposed to be sort of like background music...where
youre not really supposed to pay close attention to it...and
it becomes part of your surroundings..hence the name
"ambient"
this is what i consider to be true ambient..a lot of people
have taken it and mixed it with more danceable music..given
it beats and such..saw85-92
is an example of this..the orb is also known for this...so i
guess you could call that kind of stuff ambient
techno/house
whereas stuff like saw2, brian eno or biosphere are closer
to what i consider 'true' ambient

but then again, im no expert

I've always felt that ambient music is yeah, subtle, slowly
developing music... but also, that it creates a lot of
imagery in your mind... SAWII does that, as does Passion by
PEter Gabriel, and stuff... but yeah, I'm no expert
either...
