it's time once again for my weekly college radio program..

in case you missed last week's sheepish retraction, after my show
i found out from my program director that we are all
expected to do our shows as usual during finals week. thus,
this week's show is TRULY the last until september.

today i'm playing new music from Madvillain, Tortoise, and
N.E.R.D., oldies from Ryuichi Sakamoto, Orbital, New Order,
and Coil, somewhat rare tracks from Frank Black, Peter
Gabriel, and Roots Manuva, requests for John B.,
Autechre, and Aphex Twin
, plus T. Raumschmiere, Ceri
JC(!!), Andre 3000, Lyrics Born, Prefuse 73, etc. very good
lineup!

begins at 4 PM EST (9 PM in the UK), ends 2 hours later

*** streaming audio link here (Windows Media Player required) ***

anyone who can prove they're listening gets a personal
shoutout on the very last show!

i really want dobbin to tune in just for a moment so i
know it's broadcasting in stereo or at least full mono.

btw xammax nice job on your new track!!!

i hope alberto tunes in, not only because i'm playing his
john b request, but because i want to hear how he liked
kraftwerk.

im seeing them in 12 days...should be a nice show,
considering the venue.

where are you seeing them? are you going to any summer
festivals?

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2004-05-12 13:25 [#01184677]

here in ljubljana...i haven't planned any summer festivals
yet...i was tempted for primavera in barcelona this year,
but i couldn't go, sonar looks a bit weak, at least with
artists i like...but i have quite some gigs scheduled up to
see.

how about you? anything happening over there?

not really :/ i read that talib kweli & mf doom are touring
together, and the cure is touring w/ mogwai, interpol & the
rapture, but neither of these concerts will be in DC. i may
travel to go, though! i may or may not also see ghostface
killah w/ dead prez.

i haven't ruled out lollapalooza.. i've never been to one
and this summer's lineup is actually pretty good! it's seen
better lineups but this is about as good as it gets in
2004.

Day 1

Morrissey, Sonic Youth, PJ Harvey, Le Tigre, Modest Mouse,
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Von Bondies, Broken Social
Scene, The Walkmen, Wolf Eyes, Danger Mouse, Datsuns,
Sparta, DJ Peretz

Day 2

String Cheese Incident, Flaming Lips, Gomez, Polyphonic
Spree, The Thrills, Fire Theft, The Coup, Sound Tribe Sector
9, Elbow, Wheat, DJ Peretz

the pixies are supposed to be playing LA and NYC

i don't even know most of them :o

is there any chances of making wishes anymore?

making wishes? do you mean requests?

this is the last show and the playlist is set in stone.. and
it will be tight (probably won't get to sakamoto and nin,
the last 2 artists), so no more requests until fall.. sorry

you must know some of these artists (new order, afx, ae,
coil, orbital, and of course ceri jc from this board) but if
the tv is more interesting i'd watch it.

Albertobalsalm is an oddball for requesting this, I can
imagine that nipple rubbing guy from Little Nicky digging
this track. Anyway, hello Travis I'm listening.

this is AlbertoBalsalm's request... i hope he's listening
somewhere after i made him wait weeks for me to burn the
song! i would have played it last week but he was seeing
kraftwerk. this song is fun.

i hope ceri listens too because i'm playing one of his new
tracks. he said he'd put the show on while he studied.

dobbin your technical expertise is still requested

oh man. kraftwerk was great. they had really cool visuals on
a big screen that was very accuretly in sync with the music.
they opned up with the man machine, and a few tracks from
their new album tour de france followed, including 'vitamin'
where they had hypnotizing video of dropping vitamin pills
in slow motion. after that they played a classic after
another, where ralf switched between using his real voice
and running it through a vocoder. 'Radioactivity' was a
highlight for me, they used the phattest vocoder i've ever
heard in my life in a short introduction to the song. they
played a new very cool version of it, it was a wonderful
experience. the other highlight was ofcourse when they
replaced themselves with their robot replicas during
'robots'. the introduction expecially was crazy, with the
shadows of the robots flashing behind the curtains,
everybody went nuts. i'll never forget this, i'm really
amazed that i got the chance to see the electronic legends.

here are some pictures from the concert in iceland (not
taken by me):

Yeah, that one with the violins and glitch percussion- not
the current one with distorted guitars. I'll bring a CD down
for you and Pogo when I visit in the not too distant future.
