NDS Metroid Prime
NDS Mario 64x4
NDS Mario Kart DS
Animal Crossing DS
i looked at the PSP demo too. however, i think that NDS is superior than PSP. as for NDS, supported GBA softwares is very strong. and touch screen is veryyyy nice.

What? No it's not. It's a Metal Gear Solid game. Apparently they're introducing some RPG elements into it for building your stats and abilities, which is probably what you're thinking of.

I'm not sure what it is. In the second pic you can see cards. But who knows. Even if it is a card game it still looks hot. And I want it.

The cards are an RPG element... notice his Hit Points up there? Collecting the cards (maybe from dead bodies or something?) and using/equipping them will raise your stats. ''Accuracy +20'' is one of them.
I highly doubt it's a card game, people are jumping to conclusions. There's been no indication that it deviates that much from the usual MGS games. This is definitely strange! It has potential, though. Equiping different cards could change the way you approach the game. Some people that like the Rambo approach could equip power-raising cards for all out assaults, maybe cards to increase their reload skill, stealthier people could equip ''sneaking +20'' or ''speed +20'', something like that. Could be cool.
''Now, Konami has answered those questions. In a brief press release, Konami announced that Kojima was working Metal Gear Acid, an all-new Solid Snake for the PSP The publisher said nothing else about the title, other than it would "redefine handheld action gaming" and more information would be released "at a later date."
Probably an ACTION game, if it's going to redefine ACTION. I'm sold on both of the systems now, actually. I NEED Metroid, and I NEED Metal Gear.

Cool. I can't wait for these games. I might have to get a night job to afford all these.
I wonder how people will emulate the DS. Should be funny. I'm sure someone will though.

"Nice use of the touch screen for the map."
Please note that the lower screen is actually the touch-screen :-)
Didn't the guy in the press conference say you could aim and shoot at enemies by touching them with your finger? I think he did. I can't wait to try it :-D Moving around with the D-pad, killing metroids with the pen or just a finger... it'll be like nothing you've ever played before.
"I'm leaning towards PSP, because of the specs."
You fool! :-p
"Bastards. They could have put this on the PS2"
EXACTLY! The PSP offers nothing the PS2 doesn't also offer. Except that you can now play the games also outside of the house.
What I like about the DS is that it will have games that do something that simply wasn't possible on other consoles.
"plus it's FREE! Imagine playing 16 people in Mario Kart over the internet, it would be out of control."
It's free? I must have missed that. That's even more awesome :-) Yeah MarioKart online is going to be pretty amazing. If enough people buy a DS, we could have an xltronic mariokart-championship! :-D
I'm ever more excited about Animal Crossing online though. That's like... I mean... well... I'm just speechless. I love this game so much, and ever since I started playing it I've been thinking how awesome it would be to have this thing online.
My brother also has Animal Crossing, and travelling to each others town, writing letters to each other neighbours etc... it's just the best thing ever :-) If Animal Crossing DS is going to be anything like I hope it to be... it's going to be even 10x better :-D

Well, although I'm not much of a graphics whore (I'm a PS2 fanboy, I'm very used to jaggies and lo-res textures!), those Metroid screens look extremely rough next to, say, the Metal Gear Acid and Gran Turismo 4 Mobile screens. I can hardly make out some of the background textures, it's a mass of pixels and jaggies. The Mario Kart screens look better because they have a cleaner style.
And the difference between the two handhelds is very pronounced, it's not like PS2 and Xbox where a the Sony is inferior hardware-wise but a good developer can make Killzone or Transformers look as good as an Xbox game. This is a 333mhz machine vs a 67.
And I'm not getting a handheld for gimmicks or features, I'm getting it for GAMES. Regardless of whether or not the PSP offers anything signifigantly different than its big brother is a moot point when I look at the games list. The PSP has more AAA titles on the way, and they'll all look much better.
While a touch screen and the stylus are nice features, they just are NO replacement for horsepower when you look at a game like Jak and Daxter. Not with those HUGE non-loading environments. That's more important for gameplay than any fancy control scheme. PSP should be able to run the new JD game without a hitch.
Like I said, regardless of whether or not these games offer innovative touchscreen features, the fact that they're new games entirely is far more important. Now, Sony can kiss my ass, that's true. I don't even like handheld gaming, and I'd prefer them to be on the PS2. But that's a non-issue, it's all about the games, NOT the features, and the PSP's lineup is looking stellar. That's all I need to know. Sony has always delievered the games, that's why they're dominating the market.
There's a reason I don't play Nintendo 64 anymore, and even if they added a dozen cool features to it, it's STILL an N64 its core and eventually that 66Mhz processor is going to sputter out and bottleneck the system far far far more gameplay-wise than the PSP's l

...and bottleneck the system far more than the PSP's lack of a stylus.
Also, I can't remember if it was in this topic, but somebody asked about Sega's big announcement... well, it was pathetic. They announced a deal for the rights to the Matrix license. Fuck.
I was hoping they'd bring out the PS2 Shining Force, or Shenmue 3 for Xbox, or Nights 2, or a new Panzer Dragoon Saga, or a new Jet Set game... fuck.
Sega might be the best third party developer in the business, but they have NO clue how to run THEIR business.

Well you make a good point. I can understand your point of view. If you purely want the most powerful machine that can play the biggest and prettiest games... the PSP is probably a better choice. (altough I think you already mentioned you probably won't be buying either one anyway :-p Infact, I think at some point Sony will probably also release some sort of device that lets you play PSP-games on a tv-screen? Much like Nintendo's gameboyplayer. Judging from your post, something like that would probably be ideal for you if you just want to play things like the new Metal Gear game).
"I can hardly make out some of the background textures, it's a mass of pixels and jaggies."
It looks alot better when moving though. And I also kind of wonder if the difference will really be that noticeable. I mean, the difference between as PS2 and a Nintendo64 will probably be much more evident than the difference between a PSP and a Nintendo DS... because of the tiny screens. Even the most amazing graphics will look less good on a tiny lcd-screen than they do on a tv-screen. And at the same time I think the tiny screen might even "hide" some of the NDS's shortcomings... like lower resolution and jagged edges etc. I'll have to wait until I can see the actual systems in action though.
"The PSP has more AAA titles on the way"
Well that ofcourse is a matter of taste :-p The anouncement of a NEW Super Mario Bros game has gotten me much more excited than anything announced for PSP... or actually most of what has been anounced on E3... I mean come on... Super Mario Bros... this will in some ways be the "sequel" to Super Mario Bros 3... I grew up on this stuff! I pretty much consider the new SMS-game an AAAAAAA-title ;-)

"That's more important for gameplay than any fancy control scheme."
I dunno... Nitendo will have to reveal more first. But I think/hope the features of the DS will be more than just gimmicks... and that they can actually deliver something new and different. I doubt any real epic adventure-game will be released for the NDS... I predict it will mostly get multiplayer party-games (Mario64x4, Mario Kart DS... Metroid Prime Hunter will probably also focus on multiplayer). Anyway the kind of games that don't really require huge spawning environments rendered without load-times. Those kind of games will probably be reserved for the Gamecube (and at some point the follow-up to the GameBoy). Well anyway, what I'm trying to say is that I think NDS will for the most part just be different than what we're used to. For the games Nintendo's got planned for it, lots of horsepower probably isn't their #1 priority.
"There's a reason I don't play Nintendo 64 anymore"
Actually I still play it quite regularly :-p Maybe we're different kind of gamers, you and me. But I think even with all it's limitations... the N64 has a charm all of it's own. All those early adventures in 3D... they look kind of neat. For me those blocky polygon-worlds full of fog and pop-up have a similar charm as say the graphics of a NES-game... dated, yes. But beautiful in their own way. And I STILL think F-Zero X looks better than F-Zero GX :-p

Oh yeah! It's going to suck you back in all over again :p And ofcourse this time you'll probably also run into other humans (controlled by actual players) who ALWAYS have something new to say. As opposed to the animals who start repeating themselves eventually... making the whole thing even more addictive.
God, I must be the most addicted to AC-player ever. I got the game in november, and still come back to it almost every day. It's like an obsession! Must have 100.000 HRA-rating... must catch all the different fish... I just can't put it down. Sometimes when I buy a new game for instance... I forget about AC for a week or two... but I'm always drawn back to the game. It's finally going to be in europe as well (in september). I hope they throw some money at it to give it a BIG marketing-campaign! (doubt it though).... people need to realise that this is truly one of the Gamecube's best and most important titles. Even Nintendo themselves don't really seem to realise it, but atleast for me AC has become just as important a series as Mario, Zelda or Metroid.

''It looks alot better when moving though''
That's true. The framerate was smoother than I thought it would be. The flying Mario and Wario looked good in motion, too.
We're definitely looking for different things. For me personally, none of the DS features are the dealbreaker. Multi-player handheld games have zero appeal to me, voice recognition has been around for a while and has always sucked, I'll be too busy on Xbox Live to have time for the DS online... but the games coming out for it are just too tempting. I can't NOT have Metroid Prime Hunters! And sooner or later, there will be a Zelda game or two for it. Missing a Zelda game automatically makes you a loser in the game that REALLY matters... the game of life.
The touch screen is definitely cool, though. Some nice possiblities, but nothing that can replace processing power, for me. But we're obviously members of two different factions, anyway... Sony vs Nintendo. :-p.
Nintendo themselves seem to putting a lot of elbow grease into backing this thing, and although I've moved over to the Sony/Microsoft camp in recent years, the one thing Nintendo always does better is first party games. They're still the best, and I can't afford to miss them.
The more I think about it, the harder it will be for the PSP to succeed. They publically stated that it's aiming for an older demographic, hence, games like MG-Acid, Devil May Cry, Turismo, GTA, etc. Hideo Kojima himself brought up this issue. He likes the sheer power of the PSP but he has his doubts about its survival. I'm sure all of these games will be fantastic, but I'm wondering now whether or not this will work, because older gamers most likely have the money for the BIG systems... and that alone is too much to handle. I know I personally have a hundred PS2/Xbox/GC games, which leaves no time or money for handhelds. It's not that I don't LIKE GBA... but I just can't find time to play it, or scrounge up the money to buy the games.

My young cousins all have a GBA, and... I really can't see them playing a PSP, or being interested in many of the games for it. They can't afford it, and I can barely afford it myself! Handheld gaming has always been driven by young people. Pokemon is the PILLAR of handhelds and pretty much made it what it is today.
I think the PSP is going to have great games, but there may be no room on the market for them. It's integral that they get the PSP out first, or it's going to be hard. In the Nintendo press conference, they brought up the fact that 9 different times, someone has tried to topple the Gameboy, always with better hardware, and have always failed. Lynx, TurboExpress, Game Gear, Neo Geo Pocket, all got their asses handed to them. Sony is a hell of a lot stronger and smarter than any of the companies that have tried before, and nobody ever saw the Playstation 1 becoming what it was, so I can't wait for this war.
It would be hilarious if Microsoft brought out a handheld at E3.
Did you watch the Nintendo press conference? The guy they had hosting it was fucking crazy, heh.
''My name is Reggie, and I'm about kicking ass, I'm about taking names, and we're about MAKING GAMES''. He got me right into it, heh.
