For some reason I thought I heard once that there are
pianos with more than 88 keys (extra in the lower register?)
Is this true?

oh hahah yourself
"Ms Cislowska will play on the University's new Australian
grand piano, worth $130,000 and made of cedar. The piano, by
Stuart & Sons, of Newcastle, replaces the Steinway grand
that has graced the University's musical performances for
almost 40 years.

The new 2.9 metre grand, only the third of its kind made by
Stuart & Sons, has 97 keys-nine more than usual---an eight
octave range, and four pedals. "

97 keys. haha. who's laughing now? (I am)

not just stuart & sons, "the Boesendorfer Imperial Grand has
a compass of 8 octaves C to C, which is 97 Keys."

Hi mapp,
yeah bosendorfer imperials have not only some golden
elements but extra keys which are decorated in some way to
not confuse those used to regular pianos.

That and the four pedal stuff is basically a gimmick. The
extra keys (iirc) are only needed for one bach piece,
unfortunately I can't remember which (helpful, given the
size of his output). Usually the extra pedal is for super
light touch (leggierissimo or some shit)--really fucking
stupid.

By piano has 115 keys and needs 6 people to play it.
