What is SAW II like?

Delirium Machine from at home on 2002-01-03 22:39 [#00065948]

I only need SAW II in my Aphex Twin album collection. Is it
any good? What kind of music is it?

zetre on 2002-01-03 22:54 [#00065950]

(You need a lot more than that ,mate)
I sounds "like standing in a powerstation on acid" or
something of that effect..
It´s ambient, sometimes dark and moody, sometimes melodic..

Xanatos from NYC on 2002-01-03 23:30 [#00065960]

It's like talking to god

...on acid.

"if the monolith from 2001 could talk, this is what it would
sound like"
its kinda one of those albums you have to hear for
yourself...
minimalistic ambient...very nice

It took me a long while to get into "SAW 2",but it is now my
favourite Aphex cd (esp.disc 2)...and it's never off my
hifi...It has so much feeling and spirit(ok,i'll shut up
...hell,just buy it!!!)...}:>

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2002-01-04 03:00 [#00065991]

yeah, it's taking me a long while to get into it... you
think Autechres stuff is bad... I've read that Chiastic
Slide is maybe one of the hardest Autechre albums to get
into, but it's nothing compared to SAW II for me... although
don't let that deter you from buying it, cause it's a great
album... beautiful, disturbing, uplifting, meloncholy... all
on one album...

Xanatos from NYC on 2002-01-04 03:02 [#00065993]

I don't force myself to get into songs I don't like.

There are about 6 tracks on both CDs which I think are
fucking amazing. That's all I need...

although I did sort of do that with drukqs...

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2002-01-04 03:06 [#00065995]

nah, but what I mean by taking a long time to get into, is
that at first there are things I love... but it just takes a
while to appreciate the whole album... so I'm never
listening to albums I don't want to listen to, cause there
are things I love about them, but then as I listen to them
more I appreciate the rest eventually...

titsworth courier that link is broken can you fix it? I
would like to read it.

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2002-01-04 05:21 [#00066028]

impressive... I didn't read it all, but I skimmed through...
good job man...

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2002-01-04 06:25 [#00066052]

Track 9 from disc one... my god, what a great song... that's
probably my favorite... it's so errie, and beautiful at the
same time... creates some strange imagery...

Selected Ambient Works Volume II:

IS/WAS the EASIEST album for me to get into :) I found that
that was/is the only album I can truly relate to on any
level, especially my moods. Whether it be that I'm tired,
bored, stressed, pissed, melancholy, high, confused....
SAWII leads me in the straight path to my soul.

If I ever forget a sense of who I am as a person, I pop
those tunes into my head and fall asleep and dream. I've yet
to find any sort of connection, like this album, with any
sort of feel to it that has any broad approach to things. *I
hope I make sense.

SAWII is the best musical purchase that I have spent my
stupid ass money on. Everyone on the planet should listen to
this album some time, I don't give a fuck whether they like
it or not. This album pisses all over all that "happy music"
shit you hear on a typical day. This is music brought into
life. FUCKING BRILLIANT ALBUM :) !!!!! BUY IT

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2002-01-04 06:55 [#00066070]

It's just totally different from anything I've listened to,
that it's taken me a while to appreciate it... I still
haven't fully digested it all...

I'm really into Chiastic Slide by Autechre now... now that's
an awesome album!!!!!!

titsworth_courier from washington, dc on 2002-01-04 07:01 [#00066072]

Very impressive work! I just read that entire essay, and
I've gotta say, it was very well written. I even listened to
the tracks you analyzed while reading, and you did a fine
job disecting them. Did your teacher (i assume) listen to
the album after reading your essay? I think reading this
could make anyone curious enough into listening. Too bad
Stone In Focus isnt on the US version, I would have included
that as being easily the most hypnotic song on the album,
for myself anyways. Well done!

titsworth_courier from washington, dc on 2002-01-04 08:21 [#00066083]

thanks a lot! yea she borrowed the album and said she
enjoyed it. lots of "i agree"'s on my paper. she ended up
burning both discs apparently cos she thought it was some
obscure album no one could ever find. i woulda preferred if
she paid for it but at least she'll get to listen to it more
this way. as for "stone in focus", as well as "hankie",
because they're not on my copy i've never really gotten into
them. i like both but i can never put them in my head at
will. most of SAW2 i can because it resonnates with me (as
you can tell from the paper). btw were you familiar with the
reich album? that one's good too, tho it's not for everyone
(it's just the same repeating theme for an hour).

LeMoN on 2002-01-04 08:39 [#00066087]

No, I have never even heard of it, but it sounds intriguing.
SAWII is easily my favorite album of AFX's, and maybe my
favorite album in general. Are you an Autechre fan? I figure
you would be, from what I can tell about your musical
preference with that essay. But anyways, have you ever heard
the song Vletrmx21 off their Garbage EP?? It is the only
song of theirs I have heard in that style, but it is very
much in the SAWII-vein and is an absolutely wonderful song.
At the very least, download it...if you havent heard it or
own it that is ;-)

titsworth_courier from washington, dc on 2002-01-04 08:55 [#00066090]

SAW2 is my fave afx album and one of my top 10 albums (which
says a lot considering all the cd's i won and love). i think
autechre are great. i own tri repetae++ (US edition w/
garbage and anvil vapre [sp?] on disc 2), lp5, ep7, and
confield and aim to buy the rest. vletrmx is on the 2nd disc
of tri and i love that song. i also really enjoy the plaid
remix on the warp 10+3 comp. perhaps even better than the
original. what other music/groups are you into?

Narkotic from Orange County, California, USA on 2002-01-04 16:35 [#00066165]

its like being in heaven/hell at the same time (figuratively
speaking, that is) i love it

nene on 2002-01-04 18:43 [#00066211]

it sounds like dreams, at least, much of it does. afx tapped
into some collective psychology with this one. when he says
he wrote many of the tracks using lucid dreaming, I believe
him. as you listen to it for the first time, you doubt it's
music, but it affects you in ways no other music does.
