come2daddy @ 1/2 speed

I finally made the effort to make an entire albumm out of
come to daddy (tracks 2-7) and a seperate album for rdj
album (tracks 1-5) and windowlicker (track2) all an octave
lower ie. half speed.

This is awesome!!

Aphex's material is the perfect stuff to do this to because
of all the subtle detail that is difficult to comprehend at
the fast pace. It's finally almost understandable at this
speed. Beucaphalis (spelling) bouncing ball sounds very
wicked. Just download the free program audacity and some cd
ripper... It sounds better if you change the speed and pitch
together as you'd normally do, rather than do that audio
trick of changing the speed and not the pitch.

These are going to be my most listened to albums for awhile.

I'm really wondering what's going on in your head Ian(if I
may call you that)!!!

hmm.. I don't think drukqs would be as good because there
aren't as many tricky subtle tricks that go by too fast to
understand. Well, maybe it's great to enjoy at that
speed, but it won't help all that much in understanding it
further because information isn't packed so microscopically.
At the lower octave level in come2daddy his tracks still
sound eerie... they're still magnificant tracks.. ie. speed
is helpful but not a necessary ingredient for their
interesting aural quality. (squarepusher at 1/2 speed
wouldn't be as good since speed is his dominant tool)..

Come to daddy has so many off tangent weird parts. "funny
little man" has such an awesome super weird "melody" but you
can finally understand and distinguish the individual units
making it up at this speed. Aphex's material is something
that needs to be studied (for me).

The best way I can see to make something this good is to
simply create at the lower octave where you can think at the
speed of the tempo, then later speed it up. But certain
frequencies like bass drums are hard to listen to properly,
maybe you just need to train yourself. But still there are
plenty of weird analogue things he does at this speed that
baffle me, some weird software use or something.

I used to experiment with my music when I still used the
Sonique mp3 player on my computer, as it had a 'pitch'
setting. Now I can just slow it down a little bit with my
turn table, but come to daddy is still a great one to do it
with.

I've said this before. I'm convinced he wrote/programmed
drukqs at half speed. It makes sense at that speed. Some of
the details come out a lot more clearly.

btw I'm also convinced Come to Daddy was done (or can be
done) on Reason alone. Not to say that it isn't a brilliant
release...

Try double speed also. That won't help you make out details,
obviously, but it does sound nice in an interesting way,
especially Flim (IMO).

reason alone? hmm.. I havn't tried reason, but some parts
sound like they definately use some weird tricky
unconventional software. ex.. track 5 in come2daddy, one
part the "lyrics" get super warped nearish to the end.

Are you MAD, MAN!?!!?!?

DrukQs has more detalistic notes than you could possible
imagine.

I'm doing this with the premier high qual limited vinyl too,
so no loss in quality :)

DrukQs, slowed down is quite brilliant. When you hear each
individual bank, it really comes together

Feed a voice .rex sample into Malstroem in Reason and you
can get some very similar effects. You can get a spoken
sample to sound whispered using the am filter (eg. 'watching
the water flow past in the canal')... I remember he said he
used Recycle around that time as well. Still sounds amazing.

maybe I should try reason... last time I tried it I couldn't
understand or make it work, no that was buzz actually.

Reason can make you lazy... I definately need a break from
it but it is quite a neat layout. I want to get my head
around reaktor without breaking my speakers!

lets have A listen then. . .

the thinktoy mix of druqks has a slowed version of omgyja
switch that sounds awsome. it levitates and buldges
