Next event is on the Friday 14th May (week today!) @ the

Friday 14th May 2004
the Brum Creative presents..
FIBRE - FIB 002

Esem (Merck / Defocus) (live)

Ochre (Repeat Music) (live)

Pemalas (Experimental Seafood Records) (live)

Stimulus (Beta-Lactam Ring) (live)

Dep.Art.Ment (Experimental Seafood Records) (live)

C_Alderaan / Loopz / Monolab (djs)

Cost : £3
Custard Factory Theatre, Gibb St, Digbeth in Birmingham

ESEM is George Marinov from Bulgaria and has two influential
albums already out there. Enveloped on DeFocus Records and
Serial Human on Merck. One reviewer wrote "Enveloped was a
drifting, atmospheric, all encompassing and panoramically a
beautiful experience, Serial Human is dramatic, severe,
tense, relentless and hugely compelling. Esem's ability to
stamp his mark indelibly on two such diversely themed albums
is a testament to his talent and Serial Human is yet another
essential Esem purchase."

OCHRE

Ochre is 24 year-old Chris Leary, who is currently studying
for a Masters degree in music at Newcastle University,
England. Leary began writing electronic music in 2001 and in
2002, he won a remix contest held by Rephlex artist Global
Goon. He released his debut EP, ‘Sound System Bangers’
on the fledgling Repeat Music imprint and has enjoyed radio
exposure on Mary-Ann Hobbs’ ‘Breezeblock’ show on BBC
Radio 1, as well airplay on London’s Xfm and Resonance FM
stations. Ochre is applying the finishing touches to his
debut long-player, ‘A Midsummer Nice Dream’, to be
released on Toytronic Records in mid-2004.

PEMALAS

Pemalas is one of many members of the Brum Creative and has
been since day one. He has also been recording music and
playing live for just as long! His "Sosta" release on
Experimental Seafood was described as "An electro booty
shaker", whereas "Problems" was described as a "hypnotic and
somewhat charming". His music tends to be layers on layers
of sound blended with upbeat structered beats or as one
reviewer described “a more in-yer-face approach - full on
stripped-down drum rhythm over which all manner of audio
confectionary is layered”. Pemalas will be releasing his
first album on Experimental Seafood records this year.

STIMULUS

The notion of stimulus as an outlet for musical ideas and
projects has existed and evolved for seven years. Comprising
of three collaborators who share many common interests (one
of which is in the possibilities of sound to create
something interesting and unique), combined with an always
expanding and varied low tech home studio isolated in the
countryside, they continue to sonically explore, improvise
and experiment. This trio combines their influences in
psychedelic, progressive, experimental, electronic, and
minimalist music and combines them in such way to explore
different dimensions in sound.

DEP.ART.MENT

Not originally down to play but after FIB001 we all agreed
that it be rude not to fit them in again! Their first album
will be out hopefully this year on Experimental Seafood and
you can hear many of the new tracks in their live set.
People have described their music as “a complex interwoven
rhythmic journey through warm tones and busy sequences”. A
lot of people ranted how good they were last time so don’t
miss their set!

See u there!

Hey loopz, I live in Solihull near Birmingham. I've been
interested in all the custard factory stuff for ages but
have never been to any gigs there (mostly because my friends
aren't cool). Lol I randomly have a flyer on my wall for the
u-ziq/venetian snares gig last october, I take it you are
the 'loopz' whos DJ set it describes? That's really cool. I
will definitely be keeping my eye out for future stuff, keep
us posted.

Cheers man I might do that. Yeah it had your name along with
some other geezers. I've been very interested in the Custard
Factory it seems so... bohemian?? In a funky way. Always
gets the best names for some reason, definitely has done
wonders for brum. So yeah cheers again man. :p

Yeah i know what you mean. The custard factory doesnt have
much competition when it comes to venues that cater for such
wide range of electronica. It always helps that there is no
attitude or trouble as well. See you down there.

for those who are unsure about the other artists then check
out the links.
