i saw them on sunday, playing before korn. 5000 people.

i've never heard fantomas before (not even seen this
thread)

VERY intresting band, not your usual conventional boring
rock band. mike patton was a great peformer, using an
effectunit to make all kinds of cool noises with his voice.
the drummer was also crazy with a big drum set.

BUT

SOME FUCKING IDIOTS STARTING SHOUTING "WE WANT KORN WE WANT
KORN WE WANT KORN...." in the middle of their song.

ignorant fucks, i was SO ANGRY and ashamed of being apart of
this crowd. even if you don't like a band you don't fucking
disrespect them like that. they were doing their best to
make something intresting. those people who shouted are so
fucking narrowminded to appreciate something original, they
could've atleast shown some respect by shutting the hell
up.

but it wasn't the whole crowd, many people like me were
angry because of this, there's been alot of discussion on
the internet over this.

in the second concert they weren't booed off, people cheered
and wanted more (that's what i heard).

i'd like to see them again, headlining this time and in a
smaller place, were i'd be without fucking kids and morons.

oh, i saw them in this pretty small place...maybe about 1000
people, but it was packed...but the crowd knew what to
expect, so it was awesome!

what bothered you on the gig, is exactly the same thing that
bothered me at the kraftwerk gig last week...the silly
people.

ahh, the infamous "some big place w/korn" gig. i'm glad you
at least gave them a chance, although i'm not at all
surprised by the rest of the audience's reaction. people
pulled the same shit when fantomas opened for tool a few
years ago. completely stupid behaviour.

i think fantomas is definitely better suited for a small
club, but you can never tell what type of audience they'll
draw.

tolstoyed, how do you make followups to messages from other
topics?
I can manually fill the hidden textfield but
maybe there's another way?

heh, you reckon? :)

they did the 'geek show' tour here - fantomas, tomahawk and
melvins. was a great night.

patton had this thing that looked like a children's toy on
his mixing desk, though - looked like it was big and round
and plastic and had wheels or something, he kept using it to
make effects. we didn't work out what the fuck it was.
anybody here know?

you may have seen him use something different, but i know he
uses a custom circuit-bent speak n spell. i used to have a
link for the guy who made it for him, but i don't have it
anymore. it makes great sounds. at one gig, i think
tomahawk, kevin rutmanis tried to use it and it didn't work
or he couldn't figure it out.

trevor dunn's trio convulsant is really excellent - it's
another reason to go, imo. :)

i've never seen the locust play live and i'm only a little
bit familiar with their music. but they're definitely not
coming to nyc anyway. i wonder who the opening band will
be...
