in-ear earphones?

Shure earphones sound really good from what ive found on the
internet. Shure originally made them for musicians/sound
engineers for monitering concerts, and now they market them
to consumers (they're supposed to be the same as the
professional models).
They sit in your ear canal, where this foam expands to hold
them in place and block outside noise
they're supposed to block noise so well they're dangerous...
which makes sense if your using them at a concert

has anyone tried these, or similar ones from Etymopic
Research?

they sound perfect for commuting on the bus/subway.... the
sound isolation of sealed headphones (maybe more?) in earbud
size, they stay in your ear better than earbuds, and they're
supposed to produce great sound quality...

I have some Koss in-ear earphones. Great sound, the only
way to get good sound with an ear bud is if they have foam
and sit in your ear.

I really wish I had $500.00 to spend on those E5c's.
Fucking nice.

in-ear?!

i find them horribly uncomfortable... and i don't know about
sound, isn't it the worst kind?
why would one want that kind of head/earphones?

IMO wearing closed back headphones (or in this case, in ear
ones that eliminate sound) in public when you're not on
stage/whatever is really dangerous. A good friend of mine
got hit off his bike when using closed back 'phones. He
didn't hear the car behind him at all and so of course
subconciously assumed there was no car there. Add to that
things like getting mugged at night, missing announcements
on train stations, not hearing fire/smoke alarms and it's a
risky business. You're effectively making yourself
temporarily deaf to your environment, but lack any of the
skills deaf people develop to cope with their disability.
Sure, by all means use closed back headphones on
planes/whatever, but when you're walking around town, it's
nuts.

My 15.00 in ear buds are great sound, stronger base than the
Sennheiser e2's. They are perfectly comfortable if you have
the right size.

i'm torn on this.

i like in ear phones, but i've either got fucking stupid
shaped ears, or i'm not using them right, because the one
for my left ear ALWAYS falls out??!!

anyways, i like in-ear ones because i find that they have
good mid-high range on them, and they seem louder (which is
always a plus with me)

but proper headphones are good, because they don't fall off,
and they usually have good bass response. but i have found
that they are always a little quieter than the in-ear ones.

anyways, i prefer a 5k rig

>;)

well i definitely wouldn't be riding a bike on a street w/
them... and even w/ normal earbuds im paranoid about hearing
things at night, like ppl walking behind you.... but i
definitely share those concerns...

this is why i'd like to try them out before i buy them, to
see how much sound is blocked, if you can wear htem a little
looser when you want to hear more, and how easily/quickly
you can put them in and take them out...

also, i guess you could always carrey a normal set of
earbuds in your bag, b/c theyre so small, and switch when
you want to

I'm not sure, but I think for health reasons, they won't let
you try "in ear" 'phones on instore. Maybe if you take your
own foam covers (you can get 'em for about 50p a pair) with
you they'd let you, but of course that wouldn't work for
things like the shure ones you were talking about.

the Shures use foam covers

which reminds me..... for anyone who uses these: how long do
the foam covers last? it says they're disposable, which
suggests they dont last forever...

well they'll get clogged up with ear gunk wont they?

so the time frame for lastability will be variable

if you have waxy ears, then they'll last five mins

if you have sparkling clean ones, they'll last ages

I used to the foam type Koss ones and I was a tramp in
changing the earplugs. As far as I could see, you could use
a pair of foam plugs for ages without them actually
degrading in quality... they just began to look like shit
and probably got quite unhygenic. But yea I don't think
they'll fall apart as such.

They do tend to get waxy, tear a bit, etc. over time with
heavy use. New ones (radioshack/tandy do them) are dirt
cheap, so it's not really an issue.

squeeze them in there.

quality and they block out all other sounds.

in-ears will never have the same quality as larger ones.
they are more practical, though... if you want quality, go
for some large ones (you KNOW koss portapro will be
mentioned. cheap and good.. however, I'd go for some real
big ones that surround your ears).

i got these panasonic ones (a friend sent em from japan) and
they fit right in my ear with a sort of flexible rubber
thingy that latches itself in place so they don't fall out.
The bass is incredible - deep but not overwhelming.

Also, i been cycling for years with extremely loud music
blocking out traffic and shit. They way i see it, theres
always
a car behind you in the city so if you assume
that, you won't get hit (2 accidents in 15 years cycling,
not car related)

anyone else here kind of sadistically play super-annoying
squarepusher and vsnares shit on the bus? its funny to see
the reaction of some people as your bang yer head to your
ccrazy beats!

mt. saint michaels on the bus! first of all, you get fucked,
'cause the "stutter" is more efffective in headphones,
secondly, people frown their nose! haha!

yeh... then really fuck them up by having some SAW2 shit or
classical music or something that utterly contrasts with the
shear noise terror a second ago. They'd be like "thats
blokes a nuttah!"

have any people got any of those Shure earphones? I've got
Seinheiser PX200 headphones but they become uncomfortable
very quickly cos they sit on my ears and push against them.
Hurts after a while. I wan't to get some good quality in-ear
earphones for use while jogging. The Shure earphones seem
like the go deep into the ear, i assume they won't fall out
easily?

I'm thinking of buying the E2c ones, i can get them for
about £55 pounds here. What do you think?

They also have that 'memory wire', so it sits in your ear,
and then you can wrap that 'memory wire' over the top.
Looks very good; won't fall out I bet. Other ear buds (like
the ones I have) probably would eventually if you're
running, I guess.

sennheiser MX500's are very very very very very very
good...as are grado 80's.....

both really quite dear...and both make you feel like a cunt
when you wire too much bass through them and fraze them.
