Is any one else into Orbital : Funny Break (One Is Enough),
i think it is amazing.

Martel from U.K on 2001-05-01 10:32 [#00005299]

Ya Orbital are great, chime has to be one of the best
records. It is repetitious but as a great hypnotic quality.
Satan and Belfast are also great works. Orbital will always
command respect for there work.#

But there musical direction is completely different from the
APHEX TWIN, Boards of Canada, etc, there moving in more a
main stream direction.

Funny Break is possibly the worst thing they have done to
date ( apart from The Saint which is atrocious ) .

And probably the worst record i've heard this year .

It's shite .

rubbish john from pants on 2001-05-01 12:25 [#00005304]

velocity - surley emma bunton's 'what took tou so long?' is
worse. i think there are other records that are alot worse
than this. it is bearable.
i have a smidgen of respect for the orbital brothers, but
unfortunately there latest release 'funny breaks' was not
what i expected and suggests that they are moving towards
the mainstream side of things - which is not always a bad
thing, but it is slightly different to thier earlier stuff.

Orbital have always bean mainstream . That's what was so
good about them .

They got a lot of folk into electronic music that probably
wouldn't have done .

But the fact remains , it sound's like a shite ' papua new
guinea ' .

For a band that are continually recieve applause for being
innovators in modern electronic music , i recommend that
they start making innovative music instead of safely
re-treading the past .

1992 to be exact .

good point there Velocity.
I liked orbital a fair bit until I heard Aphex for the first
time, then I found their stuff to be quite average to be
honest.
I dont think theyre bad, ( now theyre no good IMO) but ,
yes, their earlier stuff made sense, but now its all watered
down baloney IMO.
I have to say the same for the Orb, I think Cydonia is very
very 1992 rehashed, and even more mainstream sounding now.
Not many of the 'old dudes' really have it any more IMO, I
think most of em have run out of interesting ideas here in
the year 2001.
I now some of you will argue this point, but some of you
might not have been into electronic music that long, so it
all sort of sounds good now, but if you've heard ( such as
in my case) all these guys's stuf since they released it
from 1989 on, it can really sound plain boring if they come
up with something too similar from those days.
Nothing is more sad when artists or bands start rehashing
such as most old rock acts a la Rolling Stones etc....
I'm starting to find the same thing happening to the Orb and
Orbital ( as much as I liked them way back in the early
90's).
Windlowlicker Ep might not be one of RDJ's best releases but
it still sounded like nothing else he or anyone else had
done before, (Windowlicker and Nannou)
thats where he deserves credit and still stands alone
amongst the old skool boys...
And I highly doubt he would come up with something similar
to Come to Daddy Ep or Richard D.James album if he were to
release something now...

Orbital blows unless seen live. The Orb is the greatest
ambient/dub group ever! Never call Orbital the Orb. Sheesh

tune*mx on 2001-05-01 19:56 [#00005325]

i think there is much more new sound on Cydonia as the new
Orbital crap. However I saw Orb on a show last week, and
they did not want to push the new tracks at all. :-) All the
classic stuff was played instead. Nice, huh?

I always thought that an artists point of view is to create
an image or sound for their liking. Who gives a fuck as to
whether it's "bringing back 1992 style" The artists point
has been made.

I enjoy orbital lots! I own most of their albums. I thought
this thread was titles "ORB"? I like the orb a lot as well.
Especially Orbus Terrarum.. good shit!

tune*mx on 2001-05-02 02:58 [#00005355]

quoth: good view! I agree. Anyway I was never disappointed
in Orb. Dr.Patterson is a genius.

I know. veryvery cool stuff to listen to when you want a
break from all the underground stuff. not too pop though.

Snivilisation is the greatest album ever, along with LP5 by
AE. Orbital rock at what ever they do, whether it be dance
like their early stuff, IDM like Sniv and In Sides, and now
whatever weird thing they are doing now.
