Has anyone else tried the 1.1.1 release of OpenOffice?
It's fucking amazing. Terrific free spreadsheet and word
processor. Also does drawings, HTML editing and
presentations, but I haven't played with that so much.

Anyhoo if you've tried it in the past, the latest version
starts a lot faster, even if you disable the quickstart icon
in the tray, and seems a lot stabler.

By far the coolest feature is the PDF export - great for
documentation, press releases, etc.

very interesting suite of software, maybe I'll download the
spanish version one of these days, nice you liked it. Open
source is the way to follow

I use it on linux now and then to double check that some
word documents are OK; I don't use it too often as I don't
like the memory usage. Definitely nice work though (if
you're using linux, check out abiword and kword as well).

pdf exporting is the first thing i thought of when i saw
this thread.

OpenOffice is nice. it used to not handle some of the
formatting in .doc files, but it's gotten a whole lot
better. i use OO at home and i don't miss msOffice one bit.
and, since nothing substantial has really improved with
msOffice in like 5 years opensource solutions like this are
really narrowing the gap.

top notch program indeed.

its a great suite, the only thing that annoyed me about 1.1
was the Writer package and the fact that the page wasn't
centred. Has this changed in 1.1.1? If so then I'll be
switching back to it again.
