I'm stuck at a really stupid place... there's just a little stump thing and a huge gap between where I am and where I'm supposed to go. What do I do?

You need to use your whip on the stump on the other side of the gap. Takes a bit to get lined up properly.

I prefer rpg's wich are turnbased, like chrono trigger and final fantasy.
I think secret of mana is to.. empty. Played it for a while but never realy understood what it was all about. Just hiting monsters..

Secret of mana is great you guys are just bad at life.
I also discovered (on my own) how to fix any saved games you used a game genie on to get too powerful and accidentally fucked up (it renders that save file un usable)

"Just hiting monsters.."
Exactly! Altough I think there's nothing wrong with actionbased-rpg's myself (zelda, illusion of time, terranigma). I do feel the action should be fun. Which it (imo I suppose) isn't in Secret of Mana. You just stand next to the monsters and hit them alot. And as you go on, the only way the game becomes more difficult is that you have to hit the monsters even more times.
"Takes a bit to get lined up properly."
Plus the game is full of little flaws like that. Swinging your whip towards something should not have to be difficult. Collission detection is pretty poor in this game. Even after several hours of playing, something about it still feels awkward to me.
The AI is horrible to. Those other two characters keep getting stuck behind corners all the time. Altough I suppose that could be fixed by playing it with more players... which would probably make the experience better altogether.

1) There are lots of different attacks that characters learn, also using the other characters magic is fun as hell
2) The AI is configurable

Take out the eyes first....I just have my main guy charge up his sword and get whacking. I set the chick to runaway.....so while I'm charging I'm having her heal non-stop. Then I have the short man casting magic non-stop (he is also set to runaway). I find it much easier to manually force the characters to do their actions instead of putting it on auto.
Take out each of the eyes, then go for the middle.

Secret of Mana is good, but have any of you played Seiken Densetsu 3? (Secret of Mana 2, never released in the states?)
There are six different characters to pick from - each with their own story and unique style. Which means LOTS of replay value - the boss battles are quite excellent too. Also, each character can change classes twice in the game, which can completely change the way you play with them. Even better than that, is that there are two different classes you can change to for each character. Also, when you level up, you can choose what gets boosted - this game allows you to fully customize your characters. Also, there is a calendar system, and on different days there are different attributes, like on Luna's Day, Luna magic is stronger (i think) and on the Mana Holy Day you can stay at inns for free. Also, there are days and nights, and some enemies only appear at day or vice versa. My only barbs with it is that the game, progression-wise, is pretty linear through the first few hours, and that they lowered the depth of in-game (circle) menus. Other than that, it is superb.
Case in point - there is a character named Kevin who is a beastman. At night, he becomes a werewolf and ultra-powerful! However, at his first class change, you can have him become a Bashar or a Monk. As a Bashar, his attack power rises higher and higher. As a Monk, he is still strong, but he can also learn healing magic.
Damn! Now I want to play this game again.
Oh yeah, and Secret of Mana has some of the best boss music EVER.

Yeah...Seiken Denetsu 3 is pretty good, but the gameplay is busted IMO....not too mention that the characters are unbalanced. Kevin as a Godhand is the best class in the game and murders everything.
And as for boss music....heck yeah! Thanatos's Theme....which I think is the Dark Lich Theme is the best boss music in a game period. This game especially made the transition into liking electronic music so easy for me.

"1) There are lots of different attacks that characters learn, also using the other characters magic is fun as hell"
Perhaps I didn't get far enough into the game to really experiment with this. I found a variety of different weapons though... but they all worked more or less the same. None of them brought any sense of strategy into the battles. But perhaps when and if I give it another try I should focus more on the magic.
"2) The AI is configurable"
Yeah but that only affects how they behave in battle doesn't it?

I'm listening to "Nuclear Fusion" from Seiken Denetsu 3 right now. Awesome battle music....I think it's my favorite tune from SD3. Though one thing is sure, SD2 (Secret of Mana) has better music than SD3.
