I wonder why they use these systems...

I also wonder how a computer-processor, which is made up of
millions of small gates that either open or redirect an
eleetrical pulse, and from doing that a thousand times, it
comes to the conclution that it is supposed to play a sound
that sounds quite similar to what a trumpet would sound
like...

It's all in the circuitry eventually. Just a bunch of 1's
and 0's shooting all over the place

yep, and that's what makes it not-understandable.

for instance: 01010110111101110111001000100110101101 = a
piano playing #C for three seconds (well, not really, but
you see what I mean).

they're even wacky!

I'll hire a computer to be my jester, and then I'll dress it
up in a corset and throw sulfuric acid and sunlotion on it!

There are many things I don't understand with computers. One
thing that I'm confused about is the switches. These are
supposed to be a piece of wire that can go from point a to
point b OR from point a to point c (one of 2 forks)... but I
don't get why these metal pieces don't break off. There are
things called osscillators for example that make this switch
go back and forth really fast forever (which is what an
electronic buzzer is, the metal switch hits a bell or
something repeatedly). But with all that abuse, wouldn't it
just break off? It's just metal.. I think.

It is amazing that computers can like drunken mastah said
produce a trumpet sound from a bunch of logic gates. Well
after being 1/2 through a book called "code" (an awesome
book for computer newbies) by Petzold, I at least
vaguely know how an adding machine works. It is so
insane. It's almost impossible to comprehend fully at
once
exactly what is happening. This is because of a
thing called functional abstraction. This means you finally
invent a logic gate that does some function, a really
complex crazy looking thing. But you take that entire thing
and reduce it to one little symbol. Now you take a bunch of
those symbols and create a crazy thing out of them.
Then you reduce that to a symbol. The way computers work,
it's not really necessary to understand the details behind
such symbols to still use them. You can just file away the
logic behind them sort of. I'd like to really learn from the
ground up what's really happening. I'd like to own
one of those tic tac toe playing computers that danny hillis
built out of tinker toys.

i think it's amazing that a speaker, just magnets and
electricity, can produce the sound of the human voice and a
guitar and a bass and drums etc. all at the same time. just
by moving air.

I am (quite) sure I have seen this joke on this board
before...
but it's a good one :)

Seriously, did you somehow modify your keyboard or computer
so it automatically makes double r's... or are you that
neurotic to have done so all this time? Actually nevermind
since I remember you don't double R people's names. You've
probably forgotten one somewhere.
