Last Sunday, 11th April

from www.lazybird.org:

"This Sunday, Lazybird is honoured to host one of the most
fearsome exponents of free-jazz music of recent times. Chris
Corsano and Paul Flaherty are a drums/sax duo who have
teamed up in recent years (Paul Flaherty has been playing
and recording since the mid-70's.)Their set at last
weekend’s "All Tomorrow’s Parties" festival in the UK
(where they played as half of DREAM AKTION alongside
Thurston and Lee from Sonic Youth) excited and amazed in
spades. A rapid-fire combination of ballistic drumming,
bullets of anticipated and delayed rhythms set against a
bubbling molten river of skronking sax and wailing, shrill
harmonics. Impulsive, propulsive, relentlessly inventive and
absolutely free. What awaits us should be less of a mere gig
and more of a seismic event that disintegrates the Richter
scale and declares itself an unmitigated NATURAL SUCCESS !"

Its so true....it was a free-jazz explosion of drums and sax
and i never heard and my drummer mate, Col, has never seen
drumming like it. The drummer was so fast and without ever
missing a beat, he almost took apart the drumkit as he was
playing it, using symbols as drumsticks, using his feet,
taking off his jumper and covering a drum, using
elbows.......! He'd stop suddenly and the space would be
instantly and naturally filled with frenetic sax sounds of
equal intensity letting the drummer Swat-team his way in
again for a further rocket-propelled racket. I went out for
a smoke with Col afterwards and the lazybird crowd outside
was in absolute awe at what they just witnessed. One guy
had never been to lazybird before and had just wandered in
and you could tell, his life just changed. Madness!
