i just found out my grandpa has a brain tumor

he's been in ICU for a while because he had pneumonia, and
he had a stroke about 2-3 years ago, my grandma thought he
might of had another small stroke because his speech had
gotten worse, they did an MRI and found a fairly large brain
tumor (4x4 inches)

boo to bad news indeed

I am very sorry to hear this man and as ecnad said "I hope
things go smoothly and comfortably for your grandad
which ever path it is chosen to go down."

It's at times like these i would like to be able to say
something which would be helpful but i can't.

i haven't talked to the doctors, only my mom (called from
new zealand), who heard it from my grandma

and skink don't worry about it man, i never know what to say
to anyone either.

but god my girlfriend sucks, i told her, and we talked about
it maybe 2 minutes, (you know "oh thats too bad, is he the
one who lives in peoria", that was pretty much it) and then
she's been bitching about how her and her room mate had a
fight last night for the last like 20 minutes

ugh

The pathos of that terrible news combined with the "shit

zap it with radiation therapy.

they don't think he'd be strong enough after any kind of
cancer-removing procedures (chemo/surgery etc)

boo to bad news indeed, indeed =*(

I think p0g0 must be right, because my one of my close
friend's brother had a motorcycle accident today and had to
go to the hospital because he broke his leg, not comparable
to a brain tumor really, but its odd so much ill shit seems
to happen on holidays.

yeah and i guess the feeding tube was making the tumor worse
somehow

my mom and grandma have learned how to vacuum the fluid out
of his lungs so they're going to take care of him till he
goes

what feeding tube?

offline roygbivcore from Joyrex.com, of course! on 2004-04-28 22:45 [#01165785]
Points: 22557 Status: Lurker

he'd been in a hospital for a while, his lungs kept filling
up with fluid so they couldn't let him eat

feeding tube=basically a tube that goes into your stomache
that squeezes out protein and things you need to function

from my livejournal:

i'm in peoria now

so he has 1-2 weeks to live, his body has already started
shutting down the digestive track, the feeding tube was only
feeding the tumor i guess. i don't feel like it's real. like
this man doesn't seem real. his hair is turning grey for the
first time to me, his stubble has gone unshaven. One of his
eyes stays really close to being shut and the other one
stays wide open. I shook his hand and asked him how he was
doing, he can't talk,he has a tube in his neck. but he
either made a "so so" movement with his hand or saluted me,
i couldn't really tell.

the hardest part is going to be leaving. do i just say good
bye?

he's doing really bad

we're taking turns sitting with him and holding his hand

you can even tell he's gotten worse from the time we left
and came back (3 hours)

teary eyes all around

that must be awful.

there isn't much I can say, really. hope you and your family
are coping, how impossible that may seem.

I guess saying goodbye maybe the only thing you can really
say.

A girl we know who used to be a very close friend of mine,
is a teenage mother (well she's nineteen with a ... 3 or 4
year old son) has a brain tumour.
She either has about.. 10 years to live or the chance to
take a very expensive operation which has a success rate
(given the circumstances) of 50% at best.

I can't remember exactly why but she is pregnant again. On
purpose, she has her reasons, it's not some stupid "Why the
fuck is she having a kid - she's gonna die!" thing.

I know it doesn't seem to make sens ebut yeah I can't quite
remember what the deal is but it did make sense.

So yeah..... so many unfair things happen.

It was good seeing everyone in the family again. Just scary
watching him breathe every 10 seconds through a tube in his
neck.

he wasn't much of a talker really, unless you got some booze
in him

once my aunts were talking about how men are bad (you know
how ladies are) and they were all whats up with that

and he just looked at them and said "honey. that's the
nature of the beast."
